View Full Version : O/T - Lost a good friend today...

My puppy passed away today. Parvo virus hit him and hit him hard. After a vet exam and some fluids & meds, he lasted about an hour after I brought him back home.

5 month old "Rainer" was Half Dalmation and Half American Pit Bull Terrier. He was a great little dog full of energy and loved everyone. It's a real bummer when you lose a little friend like that. Puppies just don't stand a chance against Parvo.

Sorry about the O/T post...but it's really brought me down and bummed out.

R.I.P. Rainer - you will be remembered & missed.

I cant even imagine how you feel. You just get to know him and he is taken away.

Sorry for your loss.

It is really tough losing a friend who gives so completely of themselves and asks little in return.

I read a story about a woman who lost her eyesight and after much cajoling from her children, she got a seeing eye dog

to make a long story short, she had several over the course of the years.
the gist of her story was each had its own personality and inteligence level, but each gave her devotion with out equal.

I think to ease your sadness, you should get another, perhaps from the "dog Pound".
There are plenty that need just as much as they give.
Sorry to hear about your friend leaving you.

Hey man, that stinks. I've never been a dog gut til my wife brought one home a few months ago. He's 5 months now, and I actually like him. Half Border Collie, half Beagle, little guy, black as night.

BTW, what's Parvo?

Texas, losing a puppy is outrageously sad. The little guys are working their way into your heart and, bamb they are gone. It sucks big time to not have them with you for, well, forever. Shit, losing a pal is bad-losing a four-legged pal is worse than bad. I agree with some of the other suggestions. Pay a visit to the Humane Society or local pound. They always have, sad to say, new pals looking for someplace to call home. Check it out.

Lost a pup to Parvo before. #1 word of advice is never put a puppy down on the vet floor when you go there for shots.

Sorry about the loss

I feel your pain.
I have lost my 3 best friends,in less than 2 years.
One was 12 y/o the other 2 were 13 and 13 1/2.

Hope this helps............

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

another..........

A Dog's Plea

Treat me kindly my beloved friend for no heart in the entire world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the thing you would have me learn.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements.
I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst

Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk at your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going.

Please see that my trusting life is taken gently.
I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands.

Parvo sucks, lost a pup few years ago. Sorry for your loss.
We have a half dalmation/half leopard cur dog. And a golden retriever, both older dogs. Just went out & gave them a pat on the head and a kind word.
Mans best friend.

Thanks for everyone's kind words. It means alot.

I've lost 4 dogs in my 25 yrs on this rock.

Liqourish - 6 yr old male German Shephard - 1984
Turbo - 8 yr old female Doberman - 1990
Chewy - 7 yr old male Cocker Spaniel - 1996
Rainer - 5 month old male Dalmation/Pit -2004

I'm thinking about getting a tat for them all.

Dogs are dedicated friends. I used to get so pissed off at Rainer for being so hyperactive, clumsy, and disobedient.
When he'd act crazy I'd give him a slap on the ass and it wouldn't phase him, he'd keep trucking with his tail slapping everything. Each time I'd realize that he's just being himself.. I'd usually end up laughing my ass off and telling him that I was sorry. haha.

As far as getting another dog...I'd really love to. But after reading up on Parvo, I don't think I will. They say it lingers around the area for up to 6-months and is contagious to other dogs. Rainer spent the same amount of time in his shed as he did all around my backyard. There's no telling where this Parvo stuff is hiding, and I couldn't bear to have another pup get the virus.
