O.K. Aussies, looks like this is comming together, we have digs in South Yarra, tickets are getting paid for as we speak.
Arrive Friday round midday and fly out the same time Monday, looks like at the moment plans are.....
Friday, get checked in, drop bags and check out Route 66 to pick up my orders, Friday evening ?
Sat, might head out to the picnic early with Peddro and check things out while her in doors checks out the shops, then take the train back into town midday/arvo to meet up with her (anyone know when the trains run ?)
Sunday, both of us will head to the Picnic for the day http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
The nights are as yet un planned but I guess one belongs to my lady and the other two are up for anything that looks good round the town.
So....
Idea's ?
Recomendations ?
Hows the weather likley to be ? (ie what should I pack ?)
Anything anyone needs fron NZ (small and light, and I don't think I can sneak Murphs trophy for the Bathurst win back to Aussie).
So tell all !!!!

I was thinking that there must be a few of the bands that are playing at John's Picnic playing around town on Friday or Saturday night. Anyone know more?

Lucky you're taking her to the classy part of the country then! Plus, it helps that Melbourne's the world's most livable city. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Just don't organise to get picked up by Carps. He'll be 3 hours late and complain when you're half cut because you've been killing time in a bar, have broken the seal and have to go take a piss every half hour. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No worries mate. It's been sitting in my glovebox for the last 6 years or so. Much better to see it being put to use. Would hate to think all those poor Taiwanese people spent all that time for nothing! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now you'll have to take another pic with the new peep mirror.

Email problem was probably due to Bigpond meltdown.

Sounds good guys, can't wait to get on the bird and head over there, as a bonus it looks like we are flying on one of the brand spanking airbus's.
Will prolly base myself outa Peddro's stand and go from there, Guess I will be doing the HAMB shirt deal so shouldn't be too hard to spot http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
If anyone wants some Kiwi mags there will be some free copies of Petrolhead and some show me the $ copies of some other local mags there too (gotta pay for my Duty free booze some how http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

I'm assuming the fashion shops around Richmond etc? Chadstone could be nice for her, expensive for you. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif but easy to get back to from Packenham as it's on the same line (Chadstone shopping complex is known as "The Fashion Centre of Australia") and then you can head home for the show. You are still doing 'We Will Rock You' on Sat night? You'll love it. We did National Prius launch with cast and crew plus all the sets, was a real hoot. Had to cut Brootal's Prius in half to make it fit thru the hole in the stage for 'reveal' to dealers. Show is one of the best rock musicals I've ever seen. Ben Elton's scripting and integration of Queen hits is nothing short of pure genius.

Long range forecast is for rain, they haven't been right in ten years, but if you come prepared for it, then it's less likely to happen. And we'll all be happy for that.

We don't need the trophy back, he desrves it. Did you notice his was the only car to finish without a mark on it? Those guys drove a great tactical race and staed near the front all day to be out front when it counted most, on the last lap.

I KNOW I should. Just not gonna happen this year... unless I can figure out a way to get down there for work. Very slim chance that might happen.

Pics of the Picnic would be cool. I've posted Carps' pics before, so whoever wants to send them to me, feel free. Just email the stuff to my work email bviskovic@netfac.com.au

We have seven bands playing on Saturday arvo and into the evening. It's going to be the biggest Saturday ever, starting with the gathering of cars from early Sat morning at Sandown Park Hotel for the cruise to Packenham which departs SPH at around 11:30am. and cruises thru Dandenong and Packenham main streets.

Sunday will be biggest ever so be there early to get a primo spot. I have a feeling we're in for even more complaints than ever about the lack of good parking spaces which translates to one heck of a good time.

As you've all figured from the foregoing, preparations for the 2003 KOA John’s Picnic started months ago and the gang have been working overtime whilst Carps was off gallivanting around the country pretending to be working for a living. The list of bands is bigger than ever and there’s a bunch of people and cars headed towards Packenham from all over the country plus a few confirmed guests from across the pond. To be sure the early interstate arrivals have something to do on Friday night (that’s our story and we’re stickin’ to it) the weekend starts with the now traditional BBQ, bench racing and general bullstuff session at Tina & Choppers place. So if you’re not doing anything, the place to be on Friday evening October 31st is 74 Beaumont Road Berwick, with the frivolity starting around 7:00pm. Early registrations for the event will also commence at this time and location.

Saturday November 1st. The fun begin with the troops gathering in the parkin' lot of the Sandown Park Hotel. This is across the road from The Necropolis which for those who don't know, is the final resting place of the lady who single handedly started this whole picnic deal and made it the success it has become. So those who wish to do so can drop by and pay their respects to Tina on the way to Packenham. Because there’s the possibility of a few folks having a headache after Friday night, the official gathering time is 10:00am and at 12:00noon we start the cruise. The Cruise will take us thru Dandenong and down the main street of Packenham on the way to the racecourse. From 2 p.m. be prepared to join in the Rockabilly Rumble... featuring some of the wildest driving bands ever assembled on stage in one place.
Naturally there’ll be trade stands... a huge Kustom Kulture Exhibition... model car display... and more. During the afternoon a number of cars vying for the KING of KUSTOMS and COOLEST HOT ROD honours will be nominated to grace the "by invitation only" main courtyard in front of the bandstand for Sunday.

Saturday schedule:
2.00 p.m. - 2.50 p.m. Flatfoot Shakers
3.10 p.m. - 4.00 p.m. Crash & the Fender Benders
4.20 p.m. - 5.10 p.m. Jeannie Lush & the Lubricators
5.30 p.m. REGISTER FOR FLAME THROWERS and MUFFLER RAPP CONTEST
5.30 p.m. - 6.20 p.m. Psyclones
6.40 p.m. - 7.10 p.m. Rockabillity (The Firebirds)

8.00 p.m. - 8.50 p.m. Band to be announced
8.50 p.m. - 9.10 p.m. Round 1. - FLAME THROWER CONTEST
9.10 p.m. - 10.00 p.m. Zombie Ghost train
10.30 p.m. - Late Jam Session ...All invited to jam until we run out of “refreshments” or stamina.

Sunday November 2nd. The party starts early with gates being opened to participants from 7.30a.m. Of course anybody who wishes to volunteer as a helper is welcome to arrive even earlier. The grounds will fill up quickly so make sure you arrive early to get a primo parking spot. Naturally cruising is encouraged - clockwise around the marked track. Please use your brains and observe safety first driving practices!

Top quality fairgrounds style food will be available for sale from the Confederates Kitchen and Bay Rodder Barbecue stands, with drinks at the John’s Rod & Custom Stand at KOA Headquarters. Also in the KOA Headquarters building are Kustom Kulture Exhibition, Model Car Exhibition, and selected vendors including John’s Rod and Kustom Emporium. Event T/shirts and other items will be available on the opposite side of the main courtyard area at the Public Bar.

Rod & Kustom, Memorabilia, model car and other lifestyle oriented stands will be scattered around the main courtyard and surrounding areas. Please remember these people and businesses have supported our movement and their financial support helps cover the cost of running events like The Picnic. So remembering them with your custom when you have need of the services, parts, toys or other stuff that they offer will help ensure the future and ongoing success of our hobby.

The rules of the KOA Picnic are simple, no politics, no bitching! Lay back and relax, chill out or party hard and most importantly, have fun.
