I dont particularly like it, but if it is one of a kind, that is alot of craftsmanship for $6000. Those front and rear fenders didnt just make/adapt themselves. Its got custom striping and interior, none of which come cheap. I dont care for it, but it does represent alot of work.
in closing, its custom, but not http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gifKUSTOM http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

looks like some body picked up and updated on a fad that was popular 30 to 35 years ago of replacing the front trunk cover on a volkswagen bug with a ford 37 and 40 look alike hood and grill looked stupid then and now

Met a guy in Austin that made one of those into a roadster pickup..., and to see the "PRIDE" on his face when people would ask "what is that"? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Not my cup of tea but it's not for me to judge. (thank God!)

Yeah, there's a couple of those VW's around here. One with a '40 front, and one with a Rolls Royce Front.

Geez, I think I'm going to be sick! The sad thing is that there are actually people out there that would say its old and couldnt tell the difference between that and any other old car.

Saw a white 82-92 Camaro running around here with a Studebaker front and rear styling kit grafted onto it. I fumbled for my camera (actually had it with me!) but the guy boogied before I could get a shot off!
The roofline and doors gave it away as a Camaro...the rest DID look alot like an old bullet nose Stude...what some people won't do!!!

Hey now, a camaro/stude isnt such a bad idea, just needs the later model camaro, and later model stude...

Ha Ha...the one I saw was a bullet-nose thing on an IROC-era Camaro...but that pic gives you the general idea...uuuuhhh....if you WANTED to see one!!

Thanks a lot! I just puked my western omlette all over my key board!
I gotta know;
Why was bfdwah? searching for PT Cruisers and kit cars in the first place? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
What else did he expect to find?
Actually I find this "thing" less offensive to look at than most of the ground effects and spoiler kits he could have put on it so my only question is why they didn't recreate something like a 37 Chevy grill on a Chevy truck instead of a sorta Ford looking thing.
Or make that one for a Ranger instead of an S-10. (Not enough Rangers live to be old enough to want to "play" with?)
As for the Camaro...I've seen 50s Buicks on here with 68 Chevy roofs grafted on and no one pooh-poohed them, so if he grafted a Camaro roof on a Studebaker would that be better than putting a Stude front and rear on a Camaro?
or is there a year limit to the "cool parts" a person can use?
What's the difference?
After all, Studebaker grafted a couple of different roofs on that car themselves over the years.
What if he put an entire original or replica Stude body on a Camaro? (or some other car or S-10, with a frame to support it)
(I think that Stude-aro photoshop looks cool)
It's ok to put a 49 Merc on a 78 Olds chassis, firewall and floor pan, right? Someone on this board admits he is doing it so it must be.
It's ok to put a Camaro chassis clip on an old car or truck to get it on the ground, right?
It's ok to put repop '38 Ford tail lights with childish devil lenses on "rat rods", right?
It's all customizing...
There's always been "quirks" in the field of customizing.
There's always been companies making "fake" grills for cars.
Mail order tube grills fall into that category too, don't they?
The difference is, this re-pop grill comes with a surround that goes all the way to the windshield wipers!
I remember Rolls Royce looking"gangster grills" and fake continental kits on brand new Cadillacs and Olds Toronados in the late 70s.
Sometimes the dealers would put them on before sale, and the buyer wouldn't even know GM didn't make it that way.
I never liked them but a lot of people did and a lot of people bought them.
I have never been too fond of bubble skirts that look "stuck on" whether they were from the Mercury dealer or not, and I flat hate skirts on an already flared wheel opening like a '61-'64 Chevy. they just look like a pasted on after thought.
Is there ANYTHING a person could do style wise (other than just lowering it or parting it out) to an S-10 that would meet with the approval of this group?
It's an S-10, why is it being discussed on a traditional board in the first place?
If it had an entire, real, '40 Ford body on the S-10 chassis, and managed to pull it off and look good, would it be ok?
What about an Excaliber?
They've been around since the 60s.
That makes them older now than the Mercedes they were faking was, when they were first built.
I like the first generation with the cycle fenders....
It was/is a "factory hotrod" with a classic style body on a "new" Studebaker frame, with a new SBC after Stude closed up sold by the local Chevy dealer, here anyway.
Are we glad they aren't making "fake" Indian motorcycles anymore?
If paint wasn't so damn expensive would people be more apt to put some on their "rockerbillyratrods"?
Why is there air?
Is it just for people to blow hot all the time? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There's several of those Excalibers in my area. I looked at one of them at a car show and his had a Caddy motor in it. I never much cared for 'em, they look gaudy to me. Cruella DeVille rides...
As for Ebay, I just put "Rod" in the search box. Not a good search term, everybody thinks they have a "Rod". Came up with 4x4's, Motorcycles, and all kinds of other "Non" Rods...

Thats the general idea. Fenders, hood, quarter panels, and door skins. You all may not like it, and it's not trad, nor would it be cheap, but if i have the money, I'd do it. 19" Torq Thrust II's and all. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I agree. the later ones were gaudy, but the first generation was very cool looking with cycle fenders and not the long swept fenders and running boards.

Dr J has some good questions. The answer to his questions, is another question. Does it look right? Does it have proportion and style? I talked to an Art teacher and described the pattern of pipes under one of my rent houses, then told her how I arranged the new pipes after taking out all the old pipes. My new setup is simple, clean and beautiful. The Art teacher told me that a sense of style was spomething that can NOT be taught. Either you can recognize great style or you cant. These guys who build abortions want to do the right thing but simply dont comprehend 'style'. I went to look at 9 'streetrods' for sale yesterday. ALL fit the abortion description. Poor guy--he'll never sell'em unless he finds another guy with no sense of style. Y'all wanna see pics of them?
