Hey HAMBers, well working on a freinds project and need some advice on the generator..
Does anyone have a gen pulley that has a bolt on fan forsale? or borrow, I can make one?!?!?
Also how in the hack do you take the pully off a 1940 generator? no nut and threads , is she a press on? It looks like I have to pull her apart to knock off the pulley??
Like to get her going so we can get her to the pile-up...
Thanks John

Every one I've seen has always screwed on, so I looked in the green book for you and it shows they all have a c clip and then screw on.As far as a pully, make one out of steel their not hard to make, they just have a register for the adapter to bolt to then the fan bolts to the adapter. very streight forward.--TV http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

'40-48 generator pulleys are threaded onto the shaft--try holding the rear bearing surface between blocks of wood in a vise or use a strap wrench while whacking the thing. Earlier and later flathead generators use a nut and keyway.
The only pulley that holds a fan directly and goes on a '40 type generator is '39 standard with the two brush generator and maybe some truck equivalent. This is extremely rare--most such cars had the older three brush generator. Your easiest soltion IF you don't have high electrical demand is to get any '33-39 three brush and add the aftermarket transistor regulator that hides under the band. If you find two of those '39 pulleys write me at once--
An option would be to modify the common earlier pulleys to go on your shaft. I believe there are two hole sizes, also, and the larger might just bolt onto a '49-53 or twelve volt later generator--I am presently conducting research on these lines...
