Willys wuz still alive and kickin'? It seems like all the manufacturers are throwin' back to the past for design cues... some good, others bad. So this weeks "what if?" is a Willys P.U. Part Chevy SSR, part Willys and mostly fat rubber and curves... In my mind Chrysler would provide the Hemi, the factory headers could be uncapped and the ONLY creature comfort would be a five speed shift knob covered in leather http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But really, it is kinda funny how the "big guys" have stepped up to do the retro thing. I guess the main point of my graphite madness is that the auto companies have noticed and have accepted the after market & hobby segment of the automobile "perversion".

Legens is from my hometown. That PU has been in the works for at least 4 years. On the drawing board a bit longer than that. I've heard of it since they started but never get time to stop by when I'm in town. Not my style but they do good work.
It started as a '60's straight axle dragster outta the Memphis area. He kept the cowl & sold the rest back to to the man he got it from. That guy then sold those parts to others who could use them.
Legens came from literally nowhere and in 10 years has "made it" by many folks standards. I admire his drive to succeed in a profession he loves. He quit a good job and started a shop in a barn on his father-in-law's land. With a wife & three kids to feed, that takes balls.

Hey Harrison...I'm not tryin' to be cocky... it's just funny to see how close the styling is.... Just kinda proves there are no new ideas!!!!

Me too. I thought hows the hyjacked post with the ladies not locked yet on the new more on topic HAMB till I saw the dates. As far as street rods/retromobiles go, that truck is pretty neat lookin. I bet if you sold a fiberglass front end conversion kit for the SSR, you'd sell a bunch of them...

I know you're not being cocky. I didn't take it that way at all. It isn't funny how close the styling is... it's downright scary. It's the same damn truck.
Legens did a '39 Standard for a good friend of mine. In this pic of my buddy's seat from Legens' web site (www.legenshotrod.com (http://www.legenshotrod.com)) you can see a pic of the truck in the background.

heh...I saw an ssr today with a nose on it that looked exactly like that! what a coincidence. that's the first thing I though of when I saw the sketch, someone drew that late model and put it on the HAMB.

They say great minds think alike. How the two of us came up with the same thought, I'll never know:D :D
