Hi,
My wife and I just buy a house in San Diego, and we are first time home owner, so we know little about home improvement, such as flooring -- hardwood floor and ceramic tile. Can anybody recommend some good contractors?
BTW: Can we save money by buying materials and hiring professionals both from HomeDepot?

Welcome ! Yes you will save a ton if you are your own contractor; approx 50% based on my experience ! I don't recommend Home Depot though. Drive around some older areas where some nicer homes are being remodeled and talk to the workers, plus look at their work. Time well spent. I had to redo the front of my garage and porch after an accident and went thru the usual insurance estimates with contractors. Then I researched and found some of the craftsmen in the area - they are usually networking, so once you find one, you get the others lined up. I was able to upgrade the garage doors, add lights, etc. and still did it for just over half of the contractor's estimates !

I've had Maurer Construction do some work for me. He has also done work for some family. Always does a great job. They build great homes & I believe they do remodeling. You can get his no in His web page Contractors San Diego (http://www.maurerconstructioninc.com)
