Our very own MilesM just handed me the cash and drove off in the Roach Rod. It makes me happy to know that someone who appreciates the car is now owning it... when I asked him what he was going to do with it he said "I'm going to drive it and continue having fun with it".
That's cool.
Wishing you a safe trip home and a lot of fun with your new car.
And yes, I got what I wanted for it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good deal Sam. You will miss that car more than you know right now- but with your talent I can only expect even cooler stuff to come.

I just went and put the money in the bank and went to lunch with the fambly... I was looking kinda glum and Katie says "Don't you have another roadster body in the back yard?... What kind is it?"
I perked up and said "Yea... I have a steel '23 Roadster body, turtle deck... banger motor w/ speed equipment... Kelsey Hays wheels... '36 rear end... and all I need is a frame and a tranny and..."
I perked up a little bit. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Swear to god a car with all those exact same parts showed up at the local cruise last week- built in the late fourties. Had a cut down '32 shell, full belly pan and Lincoln brakes. One big pipe down the passenger side. Build it Sam!

Sam, get out in the garage but stop in the back yard first and pick up the makings of your new ride. You have time to get it done, put some shakedown miles on it and be ready for the next Ego-Rama. With the experience gained on the Roach Rod it shouldn't take more than a couple of weekends. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Why is that semi sitting in the middle of your street in all 3 pictures?
I hope he doesn't change it too much, as far as the great unHAMBed (and HAMBed) masses are concerned it's a classic "roach" rod, it's the car that pops into their heads when you say "roach" rod.
See, I didn't say the word... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
We need a picture of Miles sliding now!
SamIyam

Thanks guys,
the semi is dropping off sod across the street... that was a few hours ago and they're done now!
Anyway, my Model A is finally going to get the attention that it deserves... then the '57 F-100 and then the Triumph... or was it the Triumph, then the Model A then the '57? Or was it the BFD, then the '57 then the Triumph then the Model A???
See, I knew I had too many cars...

Well done Sam,
well done MilesM.
Glad I got a ride in it before it went, I'm sure MilesM will be as impressed as I was with the way the car gets up and goes.

Great to see a fellow HAMBer got the rod. I met Miles when in Phoenix several weeks ago, might get to meet the car next trip.
Miles had to buy something. He's tired of waiting for me to illustrate his 39!
Yeah, it's in good hands for sure.

Glad to hear that this worked out well for two good people.
That '23 T roadster body would be ideal for a car similar to the one that Ted Brown built and had featured in R&C in 1969. It's my idea of the ultimate '23 T. The car's unique and classic silhouette was seen in the ads for Ted Brown Chassis in R&C that year.

Congratulation guys!
Ain't it great when we can sell our cars to someone who will appreciate it and take care of it just like we would have. Cool!

Man another hotrodder fullfilling his dreams of owning a hot rod but a sad father losing his dream that he had worked so hard to build. Well atleast it is in good hands and both parties are happy. Did he drive it home or where is the trailer? Good luck with the next one you build.
SamIyam
09-20-2004, 12:02 PM
He drove it home... all the way to Pheonix Arizona...
He now knows the car very well.
That was the furthest I had ever driven the car.
I'm sure he'll check in when he gets home!
Sam.
Yeah, Miles is the LAST person you should question when it comes to driving his cars. He soloed from Arizona to the Black Hills this August just cause I was throwing a littel run and a party!!!!
But when he trailors, he does it in STYLE http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks Sam. Thanks everyone. I got home last night. Had a blast. Our original travel plans allowed for being gone Monday so we took advantage of that and drove around the SW another day. Got a little extra sun! Great fun. Sam built a solid car.
Sam has told me he is fine with whatever I do with it, sell it, change it, finish and paint it (he said he would like to see that) or whatever. Class guy. I am just going to have fun in it for now in the great SamIam tradition.
Based on popular demand and my need for some more instrumentation I might see if ElPolako can surgically remove the dash for an HAMB action. In keeping with HAMB tradition, anyone got some dash ideas or spare parts that might work to donate for a replacement?

Someone did this drawing years ago... I think it was av8 or Steve Hendrickson... or ?? both of which helped out with renditions over the build.
Anyway, dropping the grille an inch and a half... or two, putting a hood and hood sides on it as well as a faux belly pan would make the car "complete". Add to that some black paint and re-covered seats... guages... interior... and it would be the cats ass... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Glad you like it Miles, that means a lot.

A HAMB auction for that dashboard would be STELLAR. Good idea. You have to keep the Xydias signature in the car though!

If it were me (which it is not), I'd cut the bullit hole riddled door off and replace it with another stock '23-'24 T coupe door and keep it and the signature in tact.

p.s. I'm going to bid on the dash! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That was me Sam, I drew on copies of the RR It was meant to encourage the track look.
Miles, Congrats on the purchase of a cool hot rod! Now if you continue with the track theme it could be one way to make the car yours without losing it's original charm.

It's all coming back to me, I think. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I think the most exciting thing about selling the car is seeing what someone will do with it...
Shit, he could put the top back on it and it would still look cool to me!
