We had a visit by some cars in our historic town. Across the street from me was one of the coolest roadsters I ever seen. The were out traveling this beautiful Ohio day. Tommorrow they are attending a show called The Glenmore Gathering Of Significant Automobiles. Rare cars from all over the world here. In fact my 1950 truck was invited to this show four years ago when they had invited street rods to it the first time along with the antiques. Quite an honor!
By the way. The 50 chevy truck I attended in is for sale cheap! Mindless plug http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Every year they showcase cars and this year it was Lincolns and cars which set trends. Here a Speedster showed up across the street that was built by Edsel Ford. This thing has a flatty (no pic) and is made of steel. The owner said it was found in a barn quite a few years ago. Wow.

Ford speedster custom-built for Edsel Ford in 1934 and designed by Ford’s first design chief E. T. “Bob” Gregorie (who later, with Edsel Ford, designed the first Lincoln Continental

The b/w pic of the car shows the original front end as designed by Edsel Ford and Bob Gregeire (probably mis-spelled) who was a Ford designer and was responsible for the '32 Fords. I believe the car dates to about 1935. The "new" nose was added in the 40's to cure overheating problems due to insufficient airflow thru the radiator. This car was featured on a recent edition of Dream Car Garage, if my memory serves me right. I think the body is aluminum and was Edsel's dream to produce this car...a dream that never came true.

I read a write up about Edsel's hot rod that stated that the car wound up on a used car lot in Fla in the late `70's after a stint as a Hollywood "movie" car. The selling price...somewhere around 6 or 7 hundred bucks! Almost unbelievable but I read it from a fairly reliable source (Car & Driver).

BTW E.T."Bob" Gregorie just recently passed away. He lived on the east coast of Florida. What a great one. Also one may wonder where the inspiration for the shape of the nose area of the`30's Lincolns and Fords came from. Well it goes back to Edsel and Gregorie's love of speedboating. A hobby in which they were avid participants. I am told that Gregorie patterned those classic front ends in such away as to resemble a speedboat plying through the water. When I heard this I took a hard look at my `39 Ford and I can see it plain as day. The grille is like the bow and the curved and sweeping front fenders look like the water being parted by a boats movement through the water. Sorta like art imitates nature type thing. Interesting concept.

That's amazing! I never thought of it that way.
The ford designers were lightyears ahead of their time.
I wish I could of taken some pics of the flathead. Yes this car was brought here from Florida. Maybe a true story !

LOVE the car!!!!! When I was a kid in Deland ,Florida it sat in a dilapidated TV repair shop. The father of the soldier who bought it off a lot in Pensacola was going to rebuild the engine "someday". His daughter and her husband ended up with the car and cashed it in.

What's the story on those wheels? They look like the new "spun" discs.

If you love late Edsel and ET's 30's and 40's Ford design, then you have to get this book- Its published by SAE, and has amazing factory photos:
