Be a man! Do an olds! They have a nice heavy duty frame to work with from the start. Originall had a knee-action style front suspension with coils, making the front of the rails have "hips" for the coil spring pockets. This design makes it tough to use a mustang II style crossmember but the problem can be overcome. I got a buddy here that built his 39 Olds 2 door hump. He cut off the outside of the hips, welded flat iron across the resulting hole and then cut off the inside hips and did the same. Not sure what crossmember he used but he got the mustang stuff in there for a really low ride.
If you're gonna do a nonfendered axle car, ya just take all the unboltable stuff off and leave the frame rails with the hips in place...no sweat.
Olds' had an open driveshaft with a "modern" style 3rd member rear axle so you can reuse the springs etc etc. All in all, not a bad choice to base a hot rod sedan on.

"done by a buddy"???
Take a welding class or two... and then relish in your own ability to make the stuff in your own mind a reality.
It ain't rocket science... the basic building skills are next to digging ditches once you've practiced some... it's PATIENCE that sets the really good guys apart from all the rest.
I'd offer him $200 since you have to spend so much to go get it... if the frame is OK, you'll be YEARS ahead of getting it running... chop the top later... speedway dropped tube axle suspension up front... and in a years time you could be driving.
Sam.
