recently met an oldtimer in my neighborhood who's got a bunch of old cars, including a flattie powered '37 and a '56 plymouth fury.he brought over a couple of old tachometers that he can't remember where the wires go.1st one is a Sun with a chrome face,8500 rpm.he opened up the back and hooked up a red wire to the + terminal inside, which is the 0 rpm side.then he hooked up a blue wire to the other side.the other 2 wires are for ground and power.the firewall unit has 4 terminals,+,-,dist. and gr. what goes where? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif next up is a stewart-warner with dome style glass 8000 rpm it has two red pointers i think are for redline and shift point.it's twice as deep as a normal tach, and has 3 wires coming out the back;pink, orange, and gren/yellow stripe.anybody seen one of these before? does it need a firewall unit to work? floyd would appreciate any help-george

+ wire from sender goes to + on head.
- wire from sender goes to - on head
dist goes to dist side of coil
grd goes to ground.
The other two wires to the head are hot and ground for the light.

Take the case off of the SW and check the connections to the head. If they are like the Sun, it needs a sending unit. If it has a Dist. terminal and a ground terminal it's self contained. A picture would be helpful.
