So Last night I drove over to my parents house and stopped at a parking lot cruise. I notice a guy that bought my 58 t-bird and asked him how it was doin' for him. Turned out we were actually standing next to the freshly billitized piece of sh*t http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif He left the top chopped (obviously) but threw some huge billet wheels and engine/intior junk on it and it had the gaudiest paint job I've ever seen! He musta thought he bought a Honda http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I feel better now. Have any of you had this problem.

At least he looks after it (sort of), as opposed to driving it into the ground and trashing it.

Unlike the asshole who bought my first ever motorcycle off me. (I'd kept it in immaculate condition, all polished and clean)

I saw him a few weeks after I sold it, great dent in the gas tank, scratched all over, filthy, dented exhaust pipe. Asshole told me "it's only a fuckin' bike and I'll soon dump it when I get a car, so why look after it"

I coulda punched him out on the spot http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I have seen some real abortions made of my old cars, but as disheartning as it is, I really don't care. If I sold it, shame on me, but I usually sell something to get another car that is much better than what I had. Everyone has different tastes, and when I've bought cars, even finished ones, the first thing I do is go home and figure out how I can hack it up and make it my car.

I feel your pain. I sold my 70 Swinger to my bro-in-law and he is always calling and asking for help with it. In 3 months he has busted a PS hose and froze up the pump, blew out a tire, spun a bearing and fried the wiring harness. To top it off he is making payments on the damn thing.

Yeah I can relate. My old 34 pick up. I sold it to get money to go into business. You do what you gotta do. Later I tried to find it and when I did, I found that it had been tubbed. Yeah hugh Mickey Thompsons http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif and my hand made bed had been converted into a dump truck like those mini trucks of a few years ago. Needless to say I didn't want it anymore.

It's his to do as he pleases, but it did break my heart.

Didn't have to.

In '85 I sold my '65 Mustang because my A was almost ready for the road. The mustang was nice, about 6 months since being completely re-done. The buyer was celebrating having just regained his drivers license after a suspension.
A month later I'm at the insurance yard to bid on some salvage... You got it. There was my old mustang all folded up and written off.

I'm sure Just Steve cringed when he saw the photo with salt all over Big Olds. Steve had spent YEARS doing all the metal work on the car.

I know for a fact I don't keep him up like I should PLUS I've been known to "abuse" him every now and then. But in my defense, I paid MY hard earned money for him so it really shouldn't matter what I do, right? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cword,

similar only kinda,

had a sweet, clean little grandma's '50 stude, a real cream puff

it wasn't even for sale and a guy offers good money so I sold it

imediately he has it painted a horrible teal color and a month later rolls it down a ravine.

he came out ok but the car was totaled.

I was ok too, I still had the money http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

A couple years ago I sold a 20-year chopped '55 Nomad project to an out of town pal. The glass was almost ready to fit to the car. Everytime I ran into him he reported good progress and then I ran into a mutual friend who reluctantly told me that the buyer had bought another Nomad parts car and unchopped my old one. Pissed? Nah, he spent his money, it's his car. Disappointed? Yeah, a little, but I had run out of enthusiam for the project, so I sure didn't have anything to gripe about. Besides it funded a goodly share of my '32 roadster parts pile.

It went to a guy who lives about 2 hours away, I saw it a few weeks ago and it looks exactly the same except for the roadrash and he's put 15K miles on it! Yes I'm afraid that I have been sick to see a few cars that I've sold, yeah I was happy to see them go away but only because I couldn't afford to keep them all! A few years back I sold a 30 Ford coupe hotrod that was a survivor from 1964, I found it untouched in a garage after a 30 year sleep it had Fenton Hawk mags, diamond tuck with the plastic still on the seats, decent paint and lots of chrome along with a hopped up A engine. I rounded up a "model C " engine put a high compression head on it with a Stromberg 2 barrel carb with a split exhaust header. Well after a couple years of driving I got the itch to get some wind in my hair so I sold it. The guy that bought it took it home (his first project) and gutted it he put in a junk yard Mustang front end along with a 76 Corvette rear end with a GM V-6 all this in a stock frame. No boxing anywhere, yeah it was his and I didn't say a thing to him but... it kind of feels like somebody violated your sister.

When I was a teenager, my dad traded a beat-ass old bike for a beat-ass old 69 firebird. Not long afer dad got it, we pulled into the parking lot of a store, and this guy comes running up to us, yelling to wait a minute. I thought the guy was crazy, just turned out that he used to own the car. He told dad all about it, why it had a different color hood and fender (he had his pick of a van in his lane, or a telephone poll.. he took the pole), all kinds of stuff. He was pretty sad about how downhill the car had gotten, but was glad to see it back on the streets after the 10 years since he had sold it.

Anyhow, I often think about where that old malibu I had will be 10 years from now.. I guess that's the price of selling a favored car...

Sold a 1970 Opel GT once, and a couple years later found it in a junkyard. Looked like the guy drank a gallon too much and played chicken with a Redwood Tree. Not too many of those GT's left, and now there is one less. I think the person might have died, but I never really looked into it.

I don't know about punching out, but wanting them to ignore and have them not remember me would be nice.

My THEM! bros, Bass, and Buzz all know my secret shame. One of my old cars scares me everytime I see it at an event. I am sure it will be at Goodguys and Sherman this year, the people never miss a show.

My old 49 Ford is now covered in Slyvester and Tweetie images and dolls. It has crystal champaing glasses and other odd things all over it from time to time. To top it off, the car has often been cry baby doll central and had one on each side. You name it, it has been on the car. Everything from the moving and dancing frog band radio thing to the car hop tray with the fake sodas and food. Yep, car culture at its finest.

I hate seeing that car...and to have people knowing it was mine...ah well, the old koots are having a good time reliving the 50's.

BTW, for years I was really well know with that car because right before I sold it I drove it out to Hanging Dice (the year Stevie Ray died) and I had cheap moondisk copies on it and I was loosing them all the way up to Ark.

People kept comming up to me all weekend saying they saw my disc's here and there...looked like a damn UFO invasion. I got some lancer look alikes from Knightprowlers that weekend and they are still on the car to this day. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm not sure about hittin' him,but what he did to the 1930 truck made me sick!

It was a simple little model A,,,kinda restored look but not really,,no door handles, nose in the dirt, big and little wheels and tires and my favorite part a 1950's chris craft boat dash and a metal bed cover with beads rolled in the top to keep it rigid,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and the cover raised from the drivers side to put in gas and tools!

My wife spotted what she thought was the ol' truck in a parking lot in Piegon Forge Tenn. last week at the shades show.

Damn,I got sick when I saw it,,,,,bling, bling wheels and high back bucket seats with ford sewed in the back of the seat, couch upholstery and the bed cover had a ,,,,,,,,,,,Big ass spoiler on it like they put on imports!
and the painted the bed cover with black rhino coating.

The dash was gone and it had stupid gauges in it,,,,,,I wouldn't have it parked in my driveway now http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I sold the truck in the late 70's and its for sale again,,,,for $19,000.00 American dollars MORE than I sold it for.

My high school daily driver was a '64 Corvair Monza convertible. My father & I did tons of work to the car, including a very decent garage paintjob. The crowning touch was swapping in a hot '66 Corsa 4-carb ex-SCCA engine, it was built well and plenty fast. I loved that car, but halfway through college I had to sell it. The dimwit we sold it to fried the motor within a month and junked the car. When I heard what happened I felt like somebody shot my dog.

conversely speaking,
Have you ever wanted to punch the guy that you bought your car from?

I discovered all sorts of nasty things about my A after tearing pieces of it apart to make it roadworthy.

1, Nothing on the inside was painted...just rusty metal.
2, no cotter pins in any of the front suspension
3, ALL brake line fittings cross threaded
4, used flat steel for engine mounts (now boxed)
5, front windsheild frame not bolted in...at all (it's a miracle it didn't fly out).
6, not painted under the vinyl top.
7, patches in the body LAP WELDED and buried in undercoat.
8, rear four bar barely welded in ( talk about chicken $hit welds)
9, 2 bolts holding the entire body to the frame

it's all been fixed now and the car is a safe reliable driver.

I really thought I would own the 62 forever, no thought of selling it.
The guy approached me about trading the glass 32 for the Impala, and next thing I knew, the Old red car was gone.

Now the 32 is gone, and I can not really say I miss either.
they are not my cars anymore. and I never placed restrictions on what could or could not be done to them
.
Hope Craig don't get mad over what I did to his Plymouth.

Like Roothawg alluded to, they never put conditions on what I could do with the money.

My take is if you sell your car, expect the new owner to do what you would, and that is try to make it his by his personalization of the car.

If you sell it, then the vehicle is no longer yours. Think Henry cares about what folks have done to all those 32 Fords?

I think not.
