Sorry, couldn't expound on the title, not enough room.
I am looking to find out what the original Ivory color was on the early ford wire wheels. It had kind of a yellow cast to it. Saw it a lot on the restored Model A's.

Where can you find a lot of the old color codes? I had a link to this one particular paint site but it hasn't been working for a while....I forget the name of it.

Straw is what the Model A guys call it. I dont like it. its a dirty, brownish yucky yellow. I plan to repaint my A wheels a bright clean yellow-I dont care if its 'correct'.

I've heard it called Tacoma Cream.

36 coupers got it.

Restorers colours come from a single page paint chip set, there's one in dad's shop.

If you really want to turn stomaches go with apple green wheels. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The chip set is $25 from places like Mac's, and it's called the Model A Paint & Finish Guide.

Mike, you're right about Apple Green. I recently looked at a 31 coupe that had Apple Green for the entire body. Man, that was just cruel.

I was under the impression it differed from body color to body color....

The Model A restorers that I knew when I was a kid told me the factory painted all the wheels black. It was the dealers that would come back and paint them "Straw", "Apple Green", whatever they called that red-orange color, etc. It was like a dealer-installed option... usually up to the original customer as to the color combo.

Slide is right, most were black from the Factory. Cword, how many original As do you have? Tacoma cream is a pinstripe color ONLY. It was not used by the Ford factory for Body exterior or wheels, ONLY for the A pinstripe. Of Course, you could get the factory to paint any color but we are talking about production vehicles. The wheels are Straw

We're down to one 28 roadster pickup, one 28 coupe and an AR Phaeton. The rpu is at present the only operable one, the AR is in progress and the coupe is a tired original which looks destined to become a rod.

From the Model A Ford Club of America "Judging Standards".

They are updated, revised, researched and based on known, documented unrestored Model A's, service bulletins and Ford archived information.

Sam.

tacoma cream was a 28-29 color and Ford did not offer to match the pinstripe color for wheels, in 30-31, the deluxe cars could have the wheels painted to match the pinstripe, but tacoma cream had been dropped except for the town car delivery, an EXTREMELY rare beast. this is according to the book, "The Ford Model A, 'As Henry built it'" We sound like a buncha Restorers here. Cword, you probably know more than I do about this stuff. My information comes from books, which are often wrong. Root, the answer to your question is Straw, they all nailed it, however there is a Med cream stripe that was available as well. I just looked at 1928-1929 From one of my dad's ole restorer books: "Fenders and wheels came from the factory painted black, but some dealers would paint the wheels to match the stripe, at an added cost to the customer." (The Ford Model A 'As Henry Built It' 2nd addition 1971) If you want all the color combos I could sit down and type them up for you. Matt

The reason I ask is I want a subtle accent color for my 36 project and I wanted somewhere to start. It may not be an exact match, I just want a chip to show my paint guy. I would like to find it in a similar modern color.
