I'm a new guy to this forum. Not real sure just how it works, but I need help!
I'm building a salt car. A low powered salt car. I'm pointed to a vintage 4 cylinder class. Powered by a model A Ford engine. I'm having trouble with transmission selection. I'm using an S-10 rear end with a T-5 transmission. The S-10 trans. has a large gap in the gearing. I also need to have the shifter as far back on the transmission as possible. I was told by a tranny shop that I needed to find a Camaro or Firebird v-8 transmission, as the gearing is much more evenly spaced. Then I will be able to keep in the torque curve for more of the run.
This is a modified roadster that weighs under 2000 lbs.
If anyone can tell us the best year and make or the part number and where to locate it on the transmission (several of the ones I have seen have the tags missing) my grandson and I would really appreciate it. Did I mention that this is a low-buck racing team?
Thanks for the help. Saltgeezer and Drew(who just had his 10th birthday)

Go to the top of this page and click on the THE HAMB (1st item in the line) and post it on there. I guess I could be a little more clear by describing the intro section as a sub-section of the main board. Hope this helps. Keep at it. You'll get the hang of it.

If all else fails, get young Drew on here with you. Remember that anyone under 35yrs. of age has never known a world without computers. It's like us old timers picking up a telephone and "dialing" a number. He will have you posting and inter-acting in no time.:)
