View Full Version : crap????
so I bring my 454 home that the guy tells me has 781 heads on it, I open it up and it has 14081045 heads, do some research and these are 78-87 open chamber oval ports. Are these worth a shit for a hot street, street/strip motor or am I screwed?? Thanks-

If you knew what you wanted why didn't you open it up and look before you handed over your $$$ and loaded it up?
The Wizzard
compare runner volumes and port sizes to the 781 and 049 heads..

They will be just fine.
money I paid the complete engine...0$
Crap...sorry man, had no idea that was your handle, sorry for the false alarm http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
60's style...tried to find that info. but got skunked, can you steer me to websites that have that info?
Unkl Ian...I'll be fine? No need to pay the long green for another set? How big of a cam can I run with these heads - if they'll work I would love keep them. Is 450 hp/lbs. ft (or more maybe more??) an unreasonable expectation with these heads? I am not scared to run more gear or stall...
Thanks for the help
I'm not finding it on line either..
I have some books around here.. someplace.
you can always swap to better heads later..

If you can't get 450hp out of a BBC - no matter WHAT heads - you're doing something wrong...yes, you'll be fine. You'll likely have better low/mid-range torque (like you need any more w/454)...
Don't know what you're trying to do with the engine or what your goals are, but if 450HP & 450lbs/ft is all you're after, don't waste any money on new heads...
