Is this casting number a 1956 392?
563922
If so, is this a good motor? is it like a J2?
I don't know, and it belongs to a buddy. He wants to know whether to hold on to it and build it, or just sell it.
Thanks All

I've got a 55 324 whith that number on it.
I'm pretty sure my 54 and 56 motors have the same number as well.

Well. Ummm. Is that what this is? a 324?
is it a good motor?
He was told it was a J2, and got it free. So if not, no big loss.
But, He was thinking of putting it in a 34 coupe project in the future.

J2's weren't intro'd til 57, so I doubt it...
Ask Yorgatron or some of the other rocketeers for sure...

Take some calipers and measure the three following things on the block (unless you don't want to take it apart) and I'll tell you the year of the block:
1)lifter or lifter bore diameter
2)cam journal diameter, or I.D. of cam bearings
3)cylinder bore diameter
Orrrr, you can check for the number stamped on a pad on the deck of the block, LH side, under the head in the middle (up through '57 they did this for sure. I keep forgeting what year they switched to stamping the engine code on the LH head).
How many bolts do the valve covers have, 2 or 5?

Those will all be stamped on that pad on the LH deck unless the block has been decked.
