ok,guys..behind my dad's house he's had a '65 stepside sittin for,like,10 years.original 6 and all that good stuff.rite now it's painted black (?) and rusty http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
i'd like to fix it up,so i'm thinkin maybe some wide whites, slam it and MAYBE a shave, scallops and some dummy spots?here are some similar looking trucks (66 and 64) for you to photoshop if you'd like..i'm kinda thinkin maybe a white or cream color with copper bumpers?but i dont really know..i LOVE the kopper kart and the dream truck and all that stuff, but i cant really make up my mind..odds are i'm going to do this truck up with rattle can and stuff on the cheap,so any suggestions would be helpful.thanks!

I am doing a Sky Blue '64 Fleetside.
I am keeping the Blue/white for sentimental reasons.
The plan is to make it a unibody (ie 61-63 Ford)
Wide whites on, well thats still in the air.
'65 vette 327 with 3 deuces
T10 but for now 3 sp.

Its striped to the frame right now, but making progress.
Adding disk brakes at this point.

1. Get it mechanically sound
2. Don't touch the paint
3. Drop it as low as you can afford to
4. Black steelies w/ small caps and pinner whites
5. Done

There's just something really cool about an old, crusty pickup that's in the weeds w/ very little else done to it.

It's all about restraint little grass hoppa'.

I wouldn't get too extreme with the body mods on a stepside early 60s Chebby. Maybe if it were a fleetside.
Go for the worktruck/pushtruck look. Mild drop, steelies with chrome lugz, no whites or skinny whites.
Spend you cash makeing it fast and dependable.
Just my .02
Remember wide whites and dummy spots are a 50s thing. Nuthin wrong with that other than you're buildin' a '65.

well,it was pretty dependable when my dad drove it.it does need the brakes fixed, but the engine is pretty nice..as far as makin it faster,i'd put a dual carb on it,but that's about it..spending money on whites?please,i'll be painting them on lol dummies just a 50s thing...i've seen them on 40s-mid60s cars, plus i just think they'd look cool, but that's just me..i hadnt really planned on doing anything too extreme..just a mild shave and maybe a roll pan or chop.that's it

Wide whites on anything later than 1960 is passe. Pick up any old (not ol') hot rod mag.

Yea, but in this case a 1960 and a 1966 look almost the same. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The big difference between the 60 and the 66 is the wrap around windshield.

I still wouldn't put whites or spotlights on a '60 Chevy truck.

What I want to do is slam one of them on the ground, paint it Blitz black. Roof and inner fenders a metalflake purple.
No hood, six banger painted purple as well, and all chromed up. Split pipes and two carbs, chrome belly burners along the boxsides. Wheels and interior a pale lavender or maybe chrome reverses and narrow whites.
Will this look like a Pimpmobile??

I gotta agree with Tony Bones. Just because you've seen wide whites, and dummy spots on later models doesn't make it right. But it is your truck, so do what you like. Oh yeah, and split that exhaust.

I'm not much on bagged trucks, they look all wrong if the top isn't chopped anyway. Trucks is fer halin and what can you haul if yer ass is draggin.
Don't forget to change out the u-bolts that hold on the front lower control arms. Chevy upgraded them to a larger size and when you break them you will have to drill out the holes for the larger bolts cause that's all they make. PIA if it is beside the road.

earl schieb has a really cool 60's chev pu. i think he told me it's got something like 1100 louvers in it. i don't have any pics of it. but it's a good looking ride.

If you put dummy spots on it,you have to get the carhop tray, with the plastic food to make it look "right" http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
