Hi,
Im knew to this site and i am pretty stoked so far, there seems to be alot of useful information and alot of great pics. i have a 63 Galaxie, its lowered with blocks and cut springs in the front, it sits real nice [apart from the occasional scrapes in and out of the driveway].
When i bought the car it had Bias ply WWW's on it, they looked good but they handled like #$%@, i put some radials on it with the small pinstripe white walls and Los angeles has never felt so smooth.I want to get Astros or some chrome smoothies - i think the smoothies look better, they are a good cross over of a lowrider look and a 50's era car.[ low i think the galaxie looks like a lowrider cruiser and raised it looks like a muscle car , i prefer the it low - as low as i can get it]
I was wondering if anyone had some pics or knew of where i could find some of a 63 with either of these style wheels. i've seen a bunch of 62's and 64's but not many 63's

thanks
L

ugh, smoothies http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif...go with the supremes. if you're running the smoothies, everybody knows you only spent $160 on wheels! i'd prefer stock wheels and spiders to the dreaded smoothy http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. mf

Smoothies are the chrome wheel cop-out. They're cheap and they don't look bad, but chrome OEMs look the part sooo much more.

i say cragars or cragar star wires....pos a pic of your car maybe someone can photoshop it for ya .....and good on ya for getting rid of the www ......60's car need pinner whites.....otherwise it looks like the car is trying to be a 50s car......supremes are cool but are getting a bit played out......i am thinking about getting rid of them on my olds...shit in my house alone we have em on 3 cars .........uh oh maybe i played em out.....haha...where in los angeles are you ? maybe fill in your profile...later,donnie

no, it's NOT about how much you spend, but what you spend it on. don't try to get by with cheap imitations (sm**thies) when you need the real thing (chrome reverse). spend your money where it counts! also note, i suggested STOCK wheels (even cheaper) over the sm**thies. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif mf

If by "smoothies" you mean chrome reversed wheels, they are about the most period corect wheels for that car (other than the Cragar S/S). Don't ever put baby moon hub caps on just the wheels.

I vote for smoothies. I know what you mean about the transitional 60's fords. with the wrong wheels they look like muscle cars so you have to be carefull. I think a dropped galaxie on chome smoothies WITH baby moon caps would be awesome. If you look at old lowrider magazines and sixties custom magazines there are a ton of cars with chome baby moons. If the car is low enough they can look really good.

Sometimes restraint (like NOT spending all you can on wheels) is what can make a car stand out.

Lets see the car man! Here's my muscle car era ford

I'll e-mail some soon. I still haven't been able to take any pictures that really show your metal flake paint job though. Photos always seem to flatten it.

Any tips on photographing metal flake from the hamb pro's?

I have to agree with the statement about 60's cars needing skinny whites (or red)...especially mid-60's cars.

Wish I still had my '64. Mine had Halibrands and louvers and an all over hotrod vibe. I'd do the custom thing now, probably with deep chrome reversed wheels and the usual WWs.
Dan Picasso has a white '64 with Astros (I think). Check Ryan's Jalopy Journal for pics of it.
My Mom had a '63 4 door when it was new, always dug that car and later, sometime in the 80's I would see this '63.5 fastback, red with cream top slammed on red wheels and dog dish caps. Badass! Not long after I got a Galaxie albeit a '64 model. Sorry for rambling, I've got a soft spot for those cars.

I agree that the old style chrome reverse wheels would be right. I don't much care for the smotthys, not sure why. I think those geeky pigged out vans killed the look for me back in the late 70s

Heres the car, low , but not as low as i want it to be, im gonna bag the rear and leave the front with the cut springs.
If someone wants to photoshop some chrome reverse smoothies or astros on it ,or for that matter some new paint ideas, I would more than happy.

Thanks for all the advice guys

Buy some spider caps, and trim rings, and call it good. Spider caps $150. from Knight Prowlers.

,,let it be known! Donnie is responsible for astro supremes being played out! hahahaha,,, for real,it sucks, there are like 3 other rides in my lil shithole area with them (not even cool rides either http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) ...i actually had a set of cragers like roberts, before i bought the astros, but they wouldnt fit over my disc http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gifbrakes ,haha

but Roberts spokes rule!

check out 'tuck' and his homepage to see a 64 w/chrome reverse and spiders...perfect!

the difference between sm**thie and chrome(d) reverse(d) wheels, is like the difference between cast finned valvecovers and billet ones with ball-milled grooves. you can say they're similar, but only one 'em of is 'traditional'. for some reason, the good ones cost more, too, just like the wheels. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif mf

Dude! that's my car!

thanks...it barely made it back from Austin. engine's completely apart for a rebuild.

Astros are my choice, obviously, but I think reverses/spiders would look nice, too.
