The reason for the '65 wagon is because I bought the ol' lady one last fall. She loves that car. So I done her a shirt w/ her car on it. Makes her happy.

I can do you a custom piece w/ a 63 hardtop, just PM and we will work it out.

SeanB, feed us more! That drawing is Grrrrrrrrreat!

Okay, I'm some body who can appreciate a lot of cars from an aesthetic point of view. Certain cars from nearly every decade has models I can appreciate.
Hot Rods, traditional hot rods, for a host of reasons, exemplify the purity, artistry
and all out raw power of the automotive hobby.
I also like muscle cars, in their 'direct from the factory' form. Little tweaks here and there are Okay but there's a point when enough is enough.

Witness, "The Air Stopper" (I'm soooo sick of Cowl Induction hoods)

Just today, I went back to work on my "Teahupoo" Tiki. I named it after the big wave spot in Tahiti (picture below of Laird Hamiltons epic wave). It's real name is Ku, he is mostly known as the Tiki of War, but also a protector, and sometimes credited as the God of Fishing and Farming.

I decided to carve Ku after watching "Riding Giants" for the hundredth time. (check it out, really amazing). These guys are practically charging into battle and riding waves that have taken lives before them. I imagine this is what you face would look like if you actually had the skill and balls to surf a place like that.(Youtube it if you can)

I carved it and left it in wax form for about 3 months or so. When I finally cast it, the bottom had a huge chunk missing on one side which had to be rebuilt and shaped in metal. (I should have been taking photo's back then)
What I ended up with was a 120gram solid chunk of silver. It was so big and thick that I couldn't get a good wax out of it.

I've dug out the back side and trimmed it down to about 99grams. I think I'll try molding it, then see where I'm at. My guess is that it will reproduce somewhere around 85-90 grams. I'm ready to get back to wax form to play with it again. Really didn't know much when I first carved this baby. I plan for this to be available as either a pendant or a ring.

here's where I stopped today.

I appreciate where you guys are coming from but I'm throwing in my two cents on cowl induction hoods...

Cowl induction hoods = LOTS of undisturbed, cool fresh air.

LOTS of undisturbed, cool fresh air = more horsepower.

More horsepower = first across the finish line.

First across the finish line = getting laid.

Getting laid is good.

I LIKE cowl induction hoods.

Yes it is! I usually have to explain it when some one asks then I get a shrug...kinda like when you quote a favorite line from a movie that nobody gets. From "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"..Sundance to the mine owner in Bolivia after he misses a pistol shot at a tin can "Can I move?", Butch says "let him move, Okay, just let him move!", Sundance wheels around and hits the can with the last 5 shots...see I told 'ya...

Of course not.

Tiki imagery has been a part of Hot Rod and Custom culture for a long time......a very long time....and it is most welcome.
Your work is beautiful man.

As STATED..... Just trying to keep the Friday art show clean and streamlined. Novice or pro.... I highly recommend posting your work whether is be drawings, photographs, sculpture, paintings, striping. etc.etc.etc.
What we do ask..... is it to be AUTOMOTIVE-RELATED and better yet......HOT ROD or CUSTOM inspired.

If that is too complicated..... just pm me and we can discuss this further.

Nice Biff.

Got to love a '54 Chevy truck with a boy and his dog and grandma's quilt. Love the little red wagon in the back as well. Just need a Coke and it could be a Norman Rockwell! If that ain't where I grew up...I was about that age when my mom brought home her '54 that I now have!

I'm seeking redemption and reconciliation after my last (first one the week) post

comped out this sketch. (it could be a mid 30s Chevy grille too I suppose.)

Yes it is! I usually have to explain it when some one asks then I get a shrug...kinda like when you quote a favorite line from a movie that nobody gets. From "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"..Sundance to the mine owner in Bolivia after he misses a pistol shot at a tin can "Can I move?", Butch says "let him move, Okay, just let him move!", Sundance wheels around and hits the can with the last 5 shots...see I told 'ya...

spent a couple of afternoons wrenching and listening to bold venture on the interweb. lots of fun!

i think to Jeff's quote "NON AUTOMOTIVE " art, i read it as something that does not fit the HAMB style. i like art/photos of rods and kustoms the best,
but if it looks like it fits the vintage style and has no image of a car, i still think thats accepted. and if stripings on a late model it still is good striping.
most of my professional work has nuthin to do with any of this... it's nice to have a place for this culture - whether its tattoos, airbrushing, photography,
design, rockabilly or rock n roll.

But it's Friday here in Oz when it's Thursday there...

I have to agree with hotrodmatt here!

It's already Friday here in Japan (finally made it here after that long 11 hour flight) when it's Thursday there in the states:)

That's why technically ...we've always started it on Thursdays for them way out West ( or is it East?), plus that's kinda like our "set up day" in the US, like how many art shows are put together for our Friday internet viewers!

just an after thought ...ideas, complaints, concerns?

Hey Franco; you're picking up on that digital stuff real quick man; awesome! I was wondering; Can't you extend your 'canvas' in Painter if you run out of empty canvas? Would be nice to have the complete car in the picture...

These shows are amazing! (Coming from someone who can't draw stick figures with a crayon!) The variety amazes me even if it's not my style I can still appreciate the time and desire involved. Heck I'm married to Franco, I know all about what it takes to create such great stuff.

Just thought I would throw my two-cents in the ring

WOW! Unbeleivable this week! I'm just going to say awesome job everyone, I love this place! Also welcome to the new guys! ewt2 great pencils. Phred, now I have to start another phrick'n pholder! You're my kinda weird and I love that cut-away! If I missed a new guy, it's not on purpose, there's a lot to look at! Von Franco, I do have to say though, if you don't knock this shit off I'm going to have to start taking classes.
This is what I started with last week,
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll236/delswanson/Chris-A-sedan-line-drawing.jpg
and this is what I have so far. I have most of the shapes blocked in and have started adding color and detail. The top is supposed to be vinyl(I'm still working on it).
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll236/delswanson/Chris-A-sedan-color-so-far.jpg
I'm not sure if I've posted this before. A friend of mine said he wanted to scare kids on the freeway.

Carbon Fiber + crate engine + twin turbos + pastel paint + 22's + lots of subwoofers & rap music = popular... doesn't mean it's for me.
