Anyone have any pointers on places to go for rebuild parts on this item? I figure the bearings are pretty standard, but I'm wondering if the gears are available anywhere.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike, I have a 46 1/2 ton tranny in my A. I got all the parts from Little Dearborn in Minneapolis. They have a nice online catalog too. Service was great & prices more than fair. DAVE

I have a '49 Ford F1 1/2-ton PU for parts. I think it has the same trans as the '47. I think my dad said it would fall out of gear at the top left position. I have seen pictures of old stock cars with a strap to hold it in gear. I don't know if it is a three speed or four speed with a granny low. It is a top loader with a long floor shifter.

My point is: I guess this means the trans needs to be rebuilt. I already have a small block Chevy to run in my Model A. What would be the advantages or costs involved in rebuilding this old Ford trans and buying an adapter vs. selling the Ford trans and picking up an old Chevy truck four speed cheap. The long stick would be pretty cool on either one.
