If my steering arms where tapered in the opposite direction the tie rod would drop in and clear everything and everyone would be happy, no heating/bending involved. Is there any reason I can't have my machine shop weld up the tapered holes in my steering arms and then re drill/taper the holes with the taper going the opposite direction? I know they used to re taper the holes 3/4 of the way through back in the day without which leaves the tie rod end sticking up a little. I want to approach this in the most safe and appropriate manner possible.
Just taper them 1/2 way thru from the other side, thats how the aftermarket ones are.

Or heat and bend the steering arms up,to get the tie rod where you need it.

I've done countless sets over the years by droping the taper in 1/2 way from the top. To the best of my knowledge no one has ever had a problem with them.

Thanks guys. I have an aftermarket set of arms up in the loft I'll have to take a look, see how they're drilled....

I just tapered mine half way from the top also. Much easier than bending or welding. Plenty safe.
