Petronx/MSD-6 will it work?

I have a petronix unit in my delco dist. can I also use the MSD-6? I like the easy starting/ increased fuel economy of the petronix but I would like to open up the plug gap in hopes of better mpg.

I run this very combo. it works very well. The MSD box should come with instructions on how to do it.

Why does my Petronx have a delay?

Ignitor I or Ignitor II? I understand the Ign. II has about a 5 sec delay in starting while it powers up. It also will shut itself down if you leave the key on ect. Thats what the web site says anyway. I have the Ign. I and have had no delays/problems.

I had an Ignitor I on my '54 Buick. The auto-shut down feature of the II would be nice, especially on that car: It's the old "golf cart" start, where you turn the ignition to "RUN" and then step on the as pedal to start the car. While working under the hood one night on the ignition system, I had it in the "Run" position, and the coil was charged up and overheated. I 2nd degree burned the palm of my hand when I grabbed the coil. I've also heard of coils exploding when the ignition is left on (Not on a Pertronix unit--it was an Accel).
The II also acts like a dual-point distributor, if I remember correctly.
I like the idea of the MSD box: more gap, and the option of a rev limiter.

Okay, I give. Why can you run wider gap with an MSD as opposed to a Pertronix Flame Thrower. Hotter spark? Longer spark?

They are both 45K volts. I know there is a difference, but what is it?

I'm running the Ign.I on a 235-what's the mpg increase with the MSD-6?

Im not familiar with the flamethrower. The larger gap used with longer reach plugs allows the arc to get farther away from the combustion chamber wall for a less contaminated fuel/air mixture, more complete combustion= more effeciantcy=more power= more miles per gallon. Hopefully.

You can open the gap with an MSD box because of the hotter spark, plus the multipule sparks below 3000 rpm. With just the pertronix and bosch coil The spark was thin and blue like a normal coil. I have personally seen my MSD box(using a bosch blue coil)throw a spark as big around as a wooden pencil lead over an inch. I read somwhere that the MDS box ups the coil primary voltage from 12V to 400V.

It was night and day when I put my MSD box on, and the rev limiter is a big bonus.
