what's everyone run under these when they swap to SBC/3 SPDs? I've heard of ppl using S10 ones (3.0 gear?), Granada/Maverick...?
any suggestions are appreciated. also, if anyone has an S10, whats the drum to drum measurement on those?

these almost a bolt in on shoebox springs-V8 Maverick- 64-68Mustang and Mercury Comet/Caliente-64 66 Fairlane/6768 Cougar etc etc......S10 is too narrow for stock tubs

I'm putting in an 8" from under a 76 Maverick. Supposed to be almost a bolt-in.

yea... Granada/Maverick ones sound like a winner. what kinda of gears did they come with?
btw: I found that 82-current S10 ones are 54 1/2" (stock shoebox is 56") drum to drum. Came in: 2.56, 2.73, 3.08, 3.42, 3.73 and 4.10 just in case anyone else was wondering.
I have a maverick rear I plan to put in my '49. Do the stock mounts on the rearend need to be removed? Are the stock springs okay to reuse? What have you guys used for lowering blocks?

I put a V8 maverick in mine. Bolts right up on the stock leaf springs, no need to move them. Only problem is most Maverick rears have 2.75 or 3.00 ratio gears in them. Great for mileage and cruisin but sucks for takeoff. This rear is probably your best option.

At first I left the stock spring pads on my maverlick axle under my 49 ford. Mine was pretty low and the pinion angle is all wrong for a lowered 'box'. Plus, my springs had to be pried over to bolt up to the maverick axle...caused a bind on the already worn spring-eye bushings.
My trick $28 offset rear U-joint wore out in about 700 miles because of the kooky pinion angle.
I cut the maverick spring pads off and bought a pair of $3 trailer axle pads...set the pinion angle right and scooted the axle over a smidgen to center it in my car...welded up the new pads and never had anymore problems outa it. Mine came with 3.00 gears.
