I worked on the car off and on all day yesterday trying to circumvent Murphy's Law (what can happen will happen). The car is up on jack stands so I run it up and shifted it and that worked fine. The carbs were ragged and I didn't have a good throttle response. I watched the carbs accellerator pumps and two had weak or no streams. I also have a weak stream but I didn't think adding Flowmax to the gas tank would help. I took those carbs apart 2 times and found a cracked venturi assembly in one and a plugged venturi assembly in the other. The throttle response is now instant and I hope that all translates to a good day tomorrow. I'll be there with a 8 member pit crew, 4 grandkids, daughter and son-in-law, cousin and his wife and of course my crew chief and greatest fan my wife.
