Been collecting parts for about 6 months for the 327 going in my Sedan. Almost there. I just got the 6 97's home that I bought at the GG Pleasanton show a few weeks ago. Now that I have them (still need to rebuild them) I would like to see some ideas on what is available for aircleaners/ tops. Show me what you got..
Where did you get that manifold? My brother is looking for one for his Homebrew 302 chev.

I think stacks might look kool or maybe some dome shaped air cleaners.

...think you're looking at a six carb setup?
Look again it's a homemade EFI setup! He left the stock fuel pump with dummy lines to fool everyone, the injectors are hidden under the cover below the log manifolds and the carbs are completely gutted.

SoCal, thanks for the pic, that is an interesting set up, especially the manifold but the fuel lines give me an idea.
Thanks for those that posted help, the help is appreciated
I like fuel logs nowadays, but back in the day it was common to knock out a home-made 6 carb fuel block out of rectangular aluminum (big enough to drill mounting holes for #10 machine screws and miss the fuel passages).
One of these mounted on the firewall and strung with 6 hoses to the carbs looked cool.
Couple of ways you can go that are inexpensive as far as 'air cleaners' go (most of the multi air cleaners were simply empty shells) -
A stainless or aluminum flash shield as mandated by NHRA rules of the era.
Usually made from 20 gage or so.
Make it wide enough to cover the carb tops with the width set at about where the inside rail of the rocker cover is.
At the front, break a right angle (90 degrees) that goes down about 1 1/2 - 2".
At the rear, break another 90 and go down about 2-3-4", whatever is required for driver protection in an open car.
Retain the flash shield with small and unobstrusive brackets or steal the inner small accessory air cleaner clamp/stud setup, drill 6 holes in the flash shield and set nuts & flat washers on the studs for height setting and bolt the shield to the studs with chrome/stainless acorn nuts and appropriate flat washers.
A little blue Loctite helps or use Nylocks.
The really easy way out was to use the tall Oly (Olympia beer) cans, 6 of them with a notch cut to allow the very slightly smaller Oly can to drop over the 48's (in my case) or 97's or whatever and retain with stainless worm drive radiator clamps.
The tall Oly cans seemed to bring the torque curve down to a lower rpm level.
For a touch of tuning capability, we ran Coors cans that were shorter and the torque curve moved up the rpm scale.
At least we thought so. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Probably the most fun was preparing the beer (real steel) cans for their intended fate as ram tubes . . . and I ain't talking about the sawing the notch bit.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

C9, thanks for the tip, did you cut the top and bottom out of them? (I assume you did not just leave the stock opening in the can). Getting the cans empty would be fun also. As for the fuel log, I have one like you mention as well as the one pictured.
Suede, do you have my confused with someone else about the bronze, I do not remember any conversation about them,
Tudor, those look good. now you will know there is an engine in there when you are driving it....

Yep.
Did cut the tops and bottoms out.
It was easy since the beer cans were like any other can.
And were a total bitch to crush with two hands let alone one if you were a skinny little teenager like I wuz.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
