View Full Version : Hemi powered T roadster -- anyone recall it?

When Pat Ganahl was editing R&C -- around 1990, I'd guess -- he ran a feature on a remarkable hemi powered T. As I recall it, it was a dual-quad Chrysler (not DeSoto or Dodge) in a solid red '26-'27 roadster, and it was very low and compact. I believe it was a midwestern, rather than West coast car. Obviously the T/Hemi combination is overkill, but this thing was so tightly packaged and muscular looking that you could actually imagine it handled and drove well.
I always thought this was an outstanding example of making an outrageous combination work, but I have never seen another peep on the car. Anybody else remember it (what issue?) or know any more about it?

I've posted a few photos of Bob Wilson's '27 T with a Chrysler Hemi. It's a real tight fit and has lots of home brewed parts all over it.

Lowlife, the explanation is that my memory is just fulla shit. I didn't remember that it was blown, I was wrong on the age of the body... just a lousy witness.
Something I do remember is the valve covers painted to match the body. Since the engine is wider than the firewall, the valve covers almost read as hood sides, and visually connect the body to the radiator shell.
Thanks for finding that. I'll find my 8/90 issue and look at it again. Neat car, huh?
And Modernbeat -- any overall pictures of Bob's car? It looks like a well-made piece too.
Thanks again, guys.

Lowlife, many thanks. I found the issue, re-read the article, and was blown away all over again by the civilized outrageousness of this car. Arnold Schwartzenegger in an Italian suit.
That issue of R&C (August '90) was one of the best ever, by the way. Ganahl ran a "Best of R&C since '53", a "top 20 rods and customs of all time", and a history of AMBR winners, all in a single issue. Outstanding!

I couldn't agree more. After reading of Pat's frustrations in the TRJ book on R&C, I can understand his departure, but the magazine was certainly at its best when he had the chair.
