View Full Version : Bitchin about the cost of rods? SELL SOMETHING!
I hear it all the time. Guys local and here on the HAMB bitching and moaning about the cost of shit. These are the same folk mind you, that will buy up every project they can find and every trinket that tehy see on Ebay. I have been guilty on it as well. Usually under the guise of "I cam use this on (insert project)!"
So today we had a swap meet in town. At first I did not even think I had anything to sell? I started looking and found several item including a old Miller 110 welder that needed LOTS of work.
Long story short, by the end of the first hour I had sold ALL my wheels and the welder. I pocketed enough to pay for my 348s new parts.
All of these parts took up valuable space, they could be replicated in a week if I asked around, so why did I hang onto them?
Moral of the story? I liquidated some SHIT and payed for some real stuff helping the family budget while I was at it.
I know it is fun to own all off this stuff, but next time you wish you could afford a whatever, look at all the shit you have collected, THEN ASK YOURSELF if you really need it?! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

T, Thanks for the tip. This must be some sort of new concept. At least I've never heard of it. Imagine selling STUFF and having money in your hand. It sure puts a new light on the 20 ton of junk I have lying around.
I'll just have to sleep on this one. Sell stuff you say? Just when you thought you'd heard it all someone comes up with a new one.

I'm with you on that, If you just want to show off your over rated shit do it someplace else. When I set up at a swap meet it is to sell shit and the stuff is worth what some one will pay and that's all. Same with ebay, I start low with no reserve 90% of the time. Stuff I have that I paid too much for I tend not to sell, that way I don't have to admit I got screwed.

You can sell stuff??? Really?? I Never thought of that. Everything I have is not good enough to keep but too good to throw away.

You can't do that. If you do then you won't have it:( Plus, when you kids sell it after you croak, it'll be worth more http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That is what I am talking about. I spent the whole day at a swap meet Saturday. Could not buy any early Ford front end parts. It's the end of the day, it's hot and I offer more than fair price.....I'm not paying more than that. Guy wanted to hangle back and forth. I was hot and carrying a bumper for my dad...He loaded the stupid thing back up. If you are there it ain't an ice cream social price shit reasonably and it will be gone.
My biggest complaint around here is used 37-41 spindles are priced at $100-$140 - I can buy brand new for $120 from Speedway http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I think Ebay has screwed up everyone's mentaility at swap meets. They drag the shit out put high prices on it and you make them a fair offer and they give you the rant about how much they could get on Ebay. - Shoulda stayed the fuck home and posted it on Ebay.
Ok rant over - I feel better too!!http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
