This is my dads 40
I came up with a plan to get him one about three years ago. My mom and I worked out a plan to surprise him with it.
My dad grew up in LA in the 50’s. was a member in the Black Knights and had a few cool early ford hot rods. The best of them was his 34 5 window and later (55 – 57) his 40 standard coupe that ended up with a deluxe front end.
Except for the moon discs and bumpers this new coupe is just like the old one. Pops and me worked on it for almost a year to get it up and running.
As long as I can remember my dad has loved 40’s but he just never got around to getting one for one reason or a nether. So being the evil hot rod genius that I am I had to find a way to make it happen. I owe my dad a lot for putting up with me.
He loves pulling the lake caps and hot lapping the town of Napa were he lives now http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good on ya! Well, he's probably glad now that he didn't strangle you to death when you were younger. I hope to be able to hook my dad up in a similar way in the future.

That's cool that your dad and you could get together on a project. I always wanted to do something with my dad and we talked about restoring an old bi-plane, but it never happened. Be glad it happened for you while he's still around. My dad passed away a couple of years ago, so there won't be any joint projects for us.

Im sorry you lost your dad.
A good friend of mine lost his dad before I did this deal, that’s what got me going on it.

Thanks for all the kind words. I really was a pain in the ass when I was a kid. Its funny how you end up paying for it. I don’t mean the car, other ways. I enjoyed doing it for my dad. I’m glad all you guys like it.

And all you young guys go to school and learn something.

sniff..sniff..makes me want to call my dad right now. Just kidding. Man that is so cool man. Its cool (1) that your pops can share this together. (2)give something back to your old man, and (3) Bring back a little bit of his youth/wild days back. Bringin back the memories, that means the world to alot of people.

Since I started my chop with my grandfather he has been telling me old stories of choping rods after wwII. Tbuckets and crazy stuff he did when he was in his youth. To tell you the truth I have never spent as much Quality time with him as I am now. I am glad that I am, he is a great man and Im glad that he has taught me even more now than he has already taught me. That man taught me to be a mechanic. In essensce he taught me to feed my family. The least I can do for him is give him my time, companionship, ear, help, and hand. Your a good man, I wish someday I can return the favor for my folks the same way.

we are about an hour from modesto, Ca (where the movie took place). So the scenery is the same. I agree great shot. I can almost see the rolled chevy in the background now.

Damb I love that movie, they actually played that movie at the drive in cause they are closing it after this summer. That was cool. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
