If youy cant figure out how to fab it, then you deserve to give the bike to me! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Yes you can. And the way I did it was to weld a shift handle on to the existing shift arm keeping the clutch on the bars. I don't know if you have ridden a jockey shift before, if so you know, if not - the hardest thing is the foot clutch especially if you fabricate the foot shift mechanism - that's why I kept the clutch on the bars plus mine is British right-hand shift so it works perfectly. Mine was easy to convert. By the way, my bike is a '65 bonnie 650.

So, what happens when you are in 1st, your left foot is holding the clutch in, you right foot is going onto the ground as you stop, but not yet, as you dont have front brakes so you need the right to work the brake still...
So, you're coming up to a train crossing with the train running past, you're now stopped, your right foot is coming down, and SLOOP, you slip on oil, or dog shit and you are starting to dump the bike to the right?
What then? suicide? Or do you spend a lotta time in neutral?
And how the heck do you have a jockey shift but a standard left hand clutch? How the F do you pull that off?
I dont get it...

Well?? what did you do? drop the bike, stall it, or miraculously knock it into neutral in time?
Cause we know you didnt eat train, right? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I have a lil chopper in the works, but thinking about above situation, I'm just going to make it gay with front brakes, and foot shift/left hand clutch...
I have yet to drop a street bike, (*knocks on wood*) it has become a point of pride, no way will i set out to set myself up...

With a right-hand shift Brit bike! Or a right-hand tank-shift servi-car.
I saw a nicely done setup - it used a hydraulic clutch rigged in tandem with the brake pedal. The first few inches you pushed the brake pedal, it disengaged the cluctch and as you kept pushing, it engaged the brake.
I'm not a fan of suicide clutch setups - I'll keep the rocker clutch on my WL, thank you. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

been there too! left foot slipped off the clutch, lunged into the intersection in 1st(which made me twist the throttle), put it sideways to the left(sliding like a flat tracker), got through the oncoming traffic, only escape was up the handycap cut in the side walk, over the curb(and the grass) airborn into a gas station parking lot, CRASH!!!!!!!
ON A 66 BONNIE CHOPPER, FOOT CLUTCH, SUICIDE SHIFT and this wasn't my first chopper! so be careful!
see here it is!
burndup.............simple. Left on the bars is the clutch, right hand on the bars is front brake and throttle. Left foot is rear brake, right hand by the tank is the hand shift. Thus, no foot clutch. Left hand clutch, right hand shift, right hand throttle after shift is complete..... old trump has neutral between each gear.... no railroad crossing mishaps.

I recently had to take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's experienced riders course - again (military can be silly sometimes) & I showed up on my WL w/tank shift, rocker clutch, & front brake on left. The instructors all kept begging me to take the test on this Buell Blast they had because they didn't think I'd be able to pass on the old Harley.
The real trick was the rapid stop - they wanted me to accelerate to 20-ish, shift into second & then on their command brake hard w/o skidding while downshifting to 1st. I told them you can have the "brake hard" part or the "downshift to first" part, but not both because I've only got one left hand! And I can't GET to second gear by then anyway!!
I passed fairly easily in the end though (I cheated & never shifted to second) - only one minor point deduction. When I talked to them at the end, they all thought that drum brakes wouldn't stop well enough http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Whatever. There were clowns who couldn't stop as well as the old WL with their discs!
Of course, most of the yuppies in my course didn't even know what kind of bike it was, the few that had been RUBs long enough to know it wasn't a "pan head" still thought it was a "suicide clutch" - so much fun! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

man i thought hot rodding was sposed to be on the edge..suicide shift fits perfect in that category
for me its kind of like kick starters and stick shifts...puts you more in "tune" with the machine
and left sides the only way cuz i like to keep my hand on the throttle
safer......no
easier.....no
faster.....no
cooler.....opinions vary
have i layed down bikes learning to ride suicide/jockey...yes
and burndup i hope you never dump a bike..ive been riding since i was 5 and i lost count a long time ago
my suicide/jockey setup on a trump if anybodys interested
i used the motor mounts as a platform and put a grease fitting in for lubin'..oh and i love it

Once again, Sean, you my friend are a RULER!
That set up is as bad ass as it is creative. I just hope that one day I can get an up close look at all the little DETAILS....
