I found me a few old cars at an auction tomorrow.

I'm looking for price ranges to bid on the following:

1929 Model A:

another:

yet another:

http://www.whiteboard.net/~luke/auction/model%2520a3-3.jpg

another:

and finally:

----------------

I'm most interested in the nicest Model A of course, but hell, I think this stuff will sell for under 500 dollars per item.

What are some good target prices to pay, if I'm looking to resell for a mild profit??

Thanks for any info.

Luke

The nice A might be worth a couple grand if it is running. I wouldn't give 500 for any one of the others I don't think.

I don't know what the going rate in Iowa is, but I think I'd spend $500 on the others without a problem. Break it up in your head, piece by piece...how much would it cost you at a swap to find all the pieces, doors, trunk lid, etc...
Just my 2 cents

That nice A would bring 4000 down here by me at an auction, I've seen junk go for that much. I'd give 500 for any of them except the Chevy truck without the back end. I'd have to think real hard about the truck missing the doors though.

I just bought my running A for more than you mentioned. I would buy any of those complete cars for 2000.00 anyday.
My honest answer. In order and by the thousands....
1. 4000
2. 5000
3 1500
4 1500
5 1000
6 1000
7 500.00
8 500.00

I paid 350 for the body only, nofenders,no hood,no grill.

Just a body and doors on the Fly.

Thanks guys for the help. Now I have some 'limits' set in my mind.

Which is funny because your limits are way higher than my own personal ones, thanks to me not being all that financially well off http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I just didn't want to spend TOO much.

Most likely, I'm kidding myself at even getting any of these. I really only want the black A, since it looks like the only one capable of being rolled onto a flat bed. My fiancee already told me she isn't helping loading any of them if I win them http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If the pickups go dirt cheap I'll bid on em, but I really dont want to deal with that LITTLE of a vehicle haha.

Let's make this a "Price is Right" game. I'll bet the black A goes for $2600. The rest will go for $300-$600.

Well if the auctioneer starts at say $300 and does,nt get a bid he,ll lower the amount and if your lucky it might just
be your next project standing there. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Wasn't it just a week or so ago that a HAMBer had an A coupe on ebay that only got to $260? The one with a pickup box in the trunk. The sedan might go as high as 4 grand, but it would have to be a readily drivable car I would think. The others Is still say $50o on without looking real close at the completeness and rust. I mean if the frame is rusted out, the engine froze up and busted and things like that will make a big difference in value.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything up close in person, so I'm going to just have to feel things out. I just like going to these auctions because I'm typically the youngest person there, and everyone gives me weird looks since I bid on obscure stuff that most people are not there to buy.

There's a sale here in town Sunday of a dude's estate. He ran a service station here from 1936-1977, and they're selling all his shop tools and a 1948 Willys Jeep...

People think that Iowa sucks so bad, but I love scavenging the countryside for old goodies that'd cost an arm and a leg elsewhere.

Take more pic's at the sale. If you would please. Post few as well. Will not be O/T as some of the other 'thread's'. Nothing finer than hitting the gravel road's and tiny town's in search of vintage tin and cool old building's. Except, of course to score one!

Who thinks Iowa sucks so bad? Not me. I've mined many old cars from Iowa and they're usually cheap, over on the western side of the state.
Be careful bidding on the stuff you don't really want. I thought I'd help get the price up a little at a farm auction last summer. I started the bidding at $50 and was "surprised" to find nobody raised it! Here's my $50 Willys pickup....I'll take $200 for it.

This auction is going to be nuts... They are running 3 rings at once, and there is just a ton of antique machinery there.. There's even this vintage jail cell:

http://www.whiteboard.net/~luke/auction/jail.jpg

I'd love to bring it home as a conversation piece, but how??

"It puts the lotion in the basket... It rubs the lotion on itself!"

I could use it as a "behavior correctional aide" for children.

For those of you who wanted a few pics of stuff, I snapped a few, but there is TOO much stuff.

I have never been to an auction like this, and probably won't see one ever again.

This dude has about 20 acres of land covered with primative machinery from threshing machines down to blacksmithing tools (power hammers)

Here are the photos for those of you who are curious.

The only thing I want at this sale is that 29 A, but jesus, this is just surreal.

My bidder number is 389, so I'm guessing I'm going to have some competition on the car sadly.

It's in great shape, not rusted through, etc.. Rolling and all that.

I love that kind of auction, wish I was there. Good luck with the A.

If you see an extra Model A decklid and it goes for around $50-$100 bid on it and I will make a roadtrip up north. If you want I can PM you my phone number in case you have a cell number out there with you.

Oh yea, on the question of what is a Model A worth? About $200-$400 for the rust buckets. Kinda think about parting them out if you want to make any Epay coin. And if you buy any don't throw anything away, sparkplugs go for decent coin.

That Landis harness sticher is worth $1000-$1500 if it works.

I'm home, and I didn't buy a single thing.

Here's how things panned out:

The black Model A sold for 2600 dollars (someone hit the nail on the head up above)

The Desoto brought 150 dollars

The other Model A brought 175 dollars

The chevy pickup brought 150 bucks

the unidentified pickup brought 25 dollars.

I had no way to haul anything other than the running model A home. 2600 dollars was borderline breaking the bank for me, so I held off.

My friend in Colorado was giddy about the blacksmith hammers, but they were all rusted solid. I didn't stick around to see what they brought.

Someone paid 400 dollars for the jail cell and had driven from Colorado to get it.

I made a new farmer buddy while I was there.. I think he was real lonely, and I had a real purdy mouth...

That's a shame you didn't get the sedan. The Desoto was probably a deal at that price unless it had a lot of wood in it. The jail cell was cool too. By the way, I'm the one that pegged the winning price. How about that! I may have to change my name to psychic-dan.

wow all that was cheap

175 seems like a deal on the other A. You could probably part it for a grand it it wasn't too rusty. Desoto was a decent deal too, I think.
