Hello HAMB. After lurking for over a year, I finally decided to make my first post.
How I found the HAMB:
I found about the HAMB from another forum I frequent, Pirate4x4.com. Chopperman's buildup threads on Pirate brought me over to check out the other vehicles on this site.
A little about me:
I'm 33 years old and have worked as an engineering tech (CAD monkey / number cruncher) for the past 11 years. My hobbies include hunting, fishing, and shooting.
Vehicle History:
My first vehicle was a 1979 Chevy Blazer. It was my parent former daily driver and was pretty ragged out but a ton of fun. I drove it from the time I got my license until the day it died.
The first vehicle I purchased was a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup. I wanted a Jeep but didn't think it would be a practical only vehicle so I went with the truck. I picked up the Dodge on 10/17/95 and have been and continue to drive it daily. Just today the odometer speed past 269,000 miles. My goal is 500,000 miles.
The second vehicle I purchased was a 1981 Jeep CJ-7. I bought the Jeep and got a lot of work done on it (paid someone to work on it). I can't complain, I've got the Jeep I wanted but in paying someone else to fix it, I think I lost a lot of what is cool about custom vehicles. There's still some work that needs to go into the Jeep to get it running but for the moment, I've lost interest. I think part of the reason I've lost interest is because even when complete, I wouldn't be able to drive it on the road. The Jeep has 41" tires, one ton axles (60/14), air lockers, hydro assist steering, Klune under drive, and a modern engine (4.3 V6) & tranny (4l60e). I hope to get motivated and complete it soon.
The reason I'm here:
After coming to the realization that I wouldn't be able to enjoy the Jeep on the road, I decided that I wanted a vehicle that I could tinker with and be able to drive any day I wanted. I've been looking for an early 50's pickup for a while. I didn't really care what make or model, I just wanted something with a decent body. In the past couple of months I had checked on a few trucks and there were problems with each of them. Rusted out bodies or excessive prices, none of the trucks I looked at fit what I wanted. This all changed on Saturday July 20th.
The add on Craigslist was pretty simple, "1950 Dodge Pickup $1250". The photos that came with the add looked promising. I made arraignments to meet the seller early Sunday morning. The seller said the truck was in pretty good shape, but had some rust in the floor. He also said he had some extra parts. As soon as I saw the truck, I knew I would be buying it. I'll let the photos tell the rest of the story. I still need to inventory the spare parts, but here's a short list:
a complete second bed (tall bed sides)
6 trannys (4 manuals, 2 fluid drive)
6 generators
a 5 gallon bucket of carbs
2 spare wheels / one spare hubcap
a new radiator
a new speedo
a spot light
3 bell housings / petal assemblys
