Well my airline has just announced that it is completely pulling out of DFW and I'll either be in SLC or ATL. My first choice is SLC as I'm not really a fan of ATL, but I'm not that senior at the company and I'd guess the more senior guys will take SLC.
This really sucks for us as we've just bought a house and have been tearing down the HAMB hauler, which I will likely have to sell now.
I don't exactly know the time frame for all of this. They said by Jan 1 05 we will be completly out of DFW. I find out next month where I go.
This Fing sucks!!

Damn.....who opened the floodgates on you??

SLC...Salt Lake City?

ATL...Atlanta?

Quite it with your pilot talk!

Well, the benefits of SLC are obvious...Bonneville is just around the corner.
I'm sure that ATL isn't all that bad- probably just around the airport. Matt's new girlfriend loved it there, and in a city that size, there HAS to be a HAMB population.
I've got my fingers crossed for SLC for you.

I feel for ya. The company I worked for told us we could "transfer to Ogden" or hit the road. I had just had a baby and bought a new house (closed on it on a Friday, got laid off on a the next Thursday! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif). I found another job.

Good Luck in your decision. It's never easy. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I have spent quite a bit of time in the Atlanta area, and visited SLC once. Personally, I like Atlanta better. It's one of the few large cities that I'd want to live in. Really, its culture is very similar to Dallas, 'cept a little bigger. Traffic might be a little worse, though, but not drastically. Property is surprisingly reasonable there, too.

Well, I certainly wish you the best wherever you end up.

Delta?

The much less paid much more abused version of Delta. ASA (Delta Connection). But Delta owns us, so what Delta says we do. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well I think the wife and I are leaning toward ATL at this point. I'll be on reserve for the rest of my life out there though.
I feel bad for everyone else out here. All the mechanics, ground crew, gate agents. They are mostly all getting laid off. Only the flight attendents and pilots all get to stay on.

There are a few of us Hambers up here in SLC.. Though we just lost Buick59 to Ca... I would vote SLC, but I guess I am partial, eventhough I am from Ca.. It has its advantages and disadvantages. Being so close to the salt is good. I bet you one thing ATL has nothing on us when it comes to a clean beutiful city.. The Mormons are not all that bad either right Ham or Buick59?? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't particularly care for Atlanta, but the suburbs north or south are okay... I kinda like Carrollton (east) too its small town and pleasant... But, get ready to sit in traffic... its like L.A. there!

Amen on the traffic,

ATL blows chunks.

A few of the people I have worked with lived in Carrolton and loved it there.

There is plenty to do around Atlanta but I have been to ATL and SLC building Flight Sims for you ASA guys to tear up and I would take SLC any day.

I am a winter freak anyways, I would get off of work and head any direction and be some place cool within 30-45 minutes.

You don't have to be Mormon but it probably helps.

As for the HAMB Hauler....

Why don't you get one of your Big D buddies to hang on to it for you until a transport method is worked out?

Your wife seemed to love that thing.

How does she feel about this move?

Any chance of going to Cincy and working for Comair?

so who you with, there are several guys from Airlines including me. United is laying off 6000 they say, Delta about the same. I am guess you may be Delta from the locations you stated (ALT being a hub)... The Industry has gone to shit from all the cheap ass flyers that do not want to pay to fly. It is cheaper now to fly cross country then it was in the 60s, 70 or 80's Can not drive for the cost... Convenience has to have some value..

Best of luck

Neither of us are too excited about this move. She is very not happy with having to get rid of the hauler too. It was exactly what she wanted.
I don't think anyone has room to hang on to my junk for that long of a time. I don't know what we'll be doing next. I dread having to do the apartment thing again, but that is defenatly where we'll have to start. Until I can get a house there isn't room for the truck.
And hell I'm tossing around the idea of moving to Australia if I can get a job overthere.

It can live at my place until you figure it out, OR, I'm sure FLAT-TOP would let it sit in Wellington again.

What part of Australia is she from?

I know I asked her, but I was more interested in the way she answered than the actual answer. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm thinking we can do something about getting the Hauler to ATL if that's where you end up.
We have Drag racing at two or three tracks. Circle tracks near most of the small towns. Road Atlanta, Atlanta Motor Speedway, The Drive Invasion, and The Lanier Swap meet (Starts in October).
A bunch of Hamb people in the ATL.

She is from a town about 5 hrs north of Sydney (Macksville). We met when I was doing a semester abroad there at a town about 1 hrs south of Sydney (Wollongong).
I deleted the Hauler for sale post. I'll look around more about what I can do.
Rashy if you really can hang onto it I may take you up on that.
I think I'm going to put that rear end in ASAP so that I can drag it around. Right now I have to flatbed it everywhere. Then I'll slap the body panels on again and make it a "whole" truck again. That way there aren't parts everywhere. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I don't think you understand OCP, thats not your truck, its the HAMBs truck. you won the priviladge of building it. I'm sure somewhere there is fine print saying you can't sell it. Sorry man, but you GOTTA build it. Moving is no excuse

Sweet Flexi! You're going to pay to have some one bring it to where ever I go! What a guy!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh yeah... And pay for storing it while I live in my apartment with no garage.

Well that sucks. I guess you don't need that motor any more huh http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I'll look around and see what room I can make down in clifton. I might be able to hang onto the hauler for ya. I'd hate for you guys to have to let it go. I can't promise anything yet, but I'll look into it.

As a former blue ball trying to retire as a widget, I feel our pain. I've done a lot of training in ATL and the traffic would be a major consideration. The infra-structure cannot handle the population increase and it sux in all directions. The hot rod scene... nothing seems to jump out at me.

SLC has Bonneville. The city is clean and you can't miss those mountains. It may not be for you if you love to drink. It is sort of dry in my opinion. Winters will be plenty of snow- with world class skiing. Did I mention Bonneville? If you went there once, you wouldn't be asking this question, but you'd have to answer to the wife.

Best of luck where ever you end up. If you pass through JFK, just ask "who owns that old Pontiac in the parking lot?".
