I was wondering if someone out there may have some drum brake knowledge of the for 8" rear.

The drums that came with the rear almost measure 3" drum on the brake surface and they have a 10" ID.

I thought I had a mustang rear, but the 10" brake shoes for those are only 1 3/4" wide and do not seem to go with the drum.

The axle seal was an odd one since it was like 2 5/8" od - the seal for the mustang 8" was not near that big in O.D.

Another thing that was different was that there was a small lip at the end of the housing whrere the backing plate bolts on. One guy told me this meant it was a maverick. The parts store didn't have drums in stock to compare what I have to.

Well I rounded up 66 mustang backing plates and had to enlarge the hole in the center to fit around this lip to mount flush.

Can anyone tell me what kind of rear I have???? I need to round up the proper drums and shoes. I also wnat to find out if the mustang backing plates will work. Maybe it is a truck rear?
any help would be greatly appreciated, I have been to the parts stores several times with no luck.

Probably out of a Wagon or Ranchero. They have wider brake shoes, meaning wider drums.
Is there a tag on the pumpkin? Would be bolted down with one of the mounting bolts. I can tell you what it is with those numbers.
Also, how wide is it? From the end of the housing where the backing plate goes on to the same point on the other side.

mavrick or fairlane i would guess. but hell just take one of the shoes & go to a good parts store that will take some time w/ya & they should be able to look it up. ya know its ford 7 the shoes is about 3inches across & the drums were 10inch, there cant be that many ford rearends w/that combo.. hell the shoe or drum may even have a part number on it....joe
