Had a disagreement with another HAMBer about a couple of cars today. I own a 59 Cadillac Coupe Deville and he owns a 54 Buick Sedan. He claims that you can get a 59 Coupe Deville anywhere but not a 54 Buick. So let me hear it guys. How many of you own a 59 Coupe Deville? How many of you want/wish you owned a 59 Coupe Deville? How many of you know where there is a 59 Coupe Deville for sale? Which would you want to own My car or his?
In order words which one is Rare?

Rare?? I own a 50 Hudson Super8 Coupe, less than 400 of em made you guys don't know what rare is! Just rode in a 59 CdeV last week. There is one for sale up the street from my work, see em pretty regularly around here. Just saw a sign for a 54 Buick for sale on the side of the road and see a fair number of those too, but for my money I'd have to take the 59 CdeV anyday.......But I'm afraid I would not use rare on either of those

I think the Buicks may be more common and are certainly less desireable on the open market. Personally, however, I'd rather have the Buick.

Of course if the Buick is a convertible or hardtop and the Caddy is a four-door sedan, all bets are off.

Id prefer a '60 if I was in the market for a caddy- a '59 was so avanteGarde/Gawdy with the Jetson taillights that the 60 was like a factory repair for a mistake they made.......Kinda always thought of them as a ladies ride......[Imagine Marylyn Monroe behind the wheel] http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif!
as to the Buick -I already own a '54 Buick so I will prob just keep IT.

Funny, I had the same argument with somebody the other day, he has a green pick-up truck and I have a white pick-up truck.

I beat the living shit out of him with a bat because he said his green truck was better than my white truck.

Looks like white is better. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm not the one who came up with this, another HAMBer used this first...

Have you been arguing with old Chucklehead Al again http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif? San Antonio doesn't have but more than one '54 Buick so it's gotta be his. Y'all cool it...both rides are mighty fine in my book.

Adios,

Ebay today : 3 `59 Coupe DeVilles for sale , No `54 Buicks.
My hometown ( Sarpsborg , Norway ): There is Five `59 Coupe DeVilles` , one `54 Buick Roadmaster .. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Norwegian GM sold only ONE `59 Cad coupe back in `59 , but they sold atleast 10 `54 Buicks ... Scandinavians love `59 Cadillacs, so the import from USA have been huge ! ( They can be seen everywhere during Summertime http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) ..

...........there is no correct answer to this question. Only interpretations of personal preferances as neither car is rare but the Caddy may be deemed a "classic" while the buick sedan will not.

Hey Ratboy if there that common around there then try and find me a cheap parts car. Cuz around here their hard to find.
True to each their own but when your car is stripped of all is chrome, trim, bumpers, etc, and not even primered and a guy offers you $18K as is then that has to say something. Considering I bought it for $2,500 complete, running, and with new houndstooth interior(everything is boxed while working on the body).

I'd take my old 58 Superchief 2 door or my old 59 Invicta wagon as rare over either one of those. But then, I've always taken the road less traveled. I passed on a good looking and strong running Hemi Cuda once because I thought $500 was too much at the time. Bought a $200 70 383 Sattelite instead! More room for friends on road trips. Besides, my girlfriend didn't like sitting on a pillow and sharing space with the shifter on the Cuda http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

your right. old Chucklehead Al is the one. He's just mad cuz I'm a girl and have three rods and he only has one. O almost forgot he also has a "t-bucket" project. He is always wants me to sell him the cars I find. Just like the Chopped 54 I bought from droplord49, first thing he asked was "When you gonna sell it to me?"

I know what you mean. Cheater mike and I have this discussion all the time he says it's sexy and 12 and I say it's sexy and 7. When it comes down to it, it's all fun and good times with a 6 pack of Zima.

My 65 Caddy Superior Landau hearse is pretty rare it is one of 160 and that is not figuring out the trim and door options. When every thng is added up what it boils down to is, in the long run it is only worth what somebody will give you for it if and when you have to sell.

[/ QUOTE ] You are asking two questions that conflict. It is easier to find a 59 Caddy. They have always been more desirable and better cared for. So the Buick is more 'rare' in the sense that there are fewer around but the Caddy is more desired. Sometimes novices claim a car is 'rare' as if that was a good thing. You may not desire a 'rare' car when you start looking for parts!

Rare? They only made ONE of MY mustang! Imagine, not another muzzy out there with the same production number, engine number or warranty number...sheesh!

Seriously, look at the production numbers of those cars...problem solved.

Staying true to the question: If both are equal in model Hardtop's, color Resale red and overall cond. the Cad will win the popularity contest. The '59 Cad is the wretched excess of the Jet Age in design. The'54 Buick is not seen as often: Show's, street, advertising or TV/Movie's. Which would I choose? The Cad. Resale and the historic factor.

Yeah I've got diehard Mopar friends who would tell you to cram both those GM boats up your backside and be done with it! Want rare how about a factory fuel injected 58 De-Soto. If you need 59 Cad parts post what you want/need cause as George said those things are fairly easy to find out here. You should have taken the 18K and bought a 60 Cad, now those have style!

Chucklehead Al does that to everyone who has something he likes. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Now is a public forum the place you really want to air your dirty laundry?

Knowing him, I really doubt it is a jealousy thing at all more of his way of showing respect. Seeing that '54 he has, there are few people he has to be jealous of.

Bring out that '59 to a Hubcaps show, we wouldn't mind seing it around town. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Are we talking rare like in how many made or how many survived?
If its how many survived then I probably got you all beat. But it isn't about me.
If I have to choose and the buick is a 2 door sedan than probably the buick. I love '59 caddies but I've never had a '54 Buick.
Otherwise I'm with sam its all about cruising fast . Easier to do in a lighter body.

As far as parts the car is complete and running. New interior and rebuilt engine and transmission. Hard parts over just need to paint it now.
