Ihave a 396 sitting in my barn and i was thinking of putting it in my truck. Do anyone of you know if there are any 3x2 or bigger setups for it? Finned covers or anything like that?
-Thanks

It'll be the same stuff available for all BBC's - it is all interchangeable. they have tri powers, blowers, tunel rams, and dual quad set ups for ya

along with plenty of cool finned valve covers out there - early mickey thompsons, etc.

The Edelbrock 2x4 setup was made for that engine. With the right valvecovers and air cleaners it won't even look out of time with an earlier car.

Hell ya! Theres tons of stuff available for big blocks!

BTW, I have an old Weiand 2x4 intake for a BB I might want to sell http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif .

There were factory tri-powers for the MarkIV engine but they are pricy since Ebay came along. It seems that everyone wants to upgrade their Corvette big block to 400/435 hp status. That, and there are some hot rod fools (yours truly for one) that think they are cool one a big block powered hot rod.

Log intake! Can you weld? Then you too can have the ratrodrockability of a six or eight carburetor manifold! Don't forget the zoomies!

BigCheese-
The ratrodrockability 6 and 8 carb intakes only work if you block off all but 2 carbs, so that everyone thinks you're running them all. To get it to perform, you'd need to actually run all 6 or 8. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Stupid question: Aren't the intake ports slightly different for the oval port heads ?

They're different only in that there was a different intake for the rectangular port heads. They'll bolt together, but the ports will be mismatched. Supposedly the "low performance" rectangular port heads actually have a slight advantage for street operation.

Personally, I'd like to see one with dual quads and stamped valve covers dressed up with a batwing aircleaner and Chevrolet script.

or budget dual quad,

I paid $225.00 for this one but with Holley carbs and $35.00 for the valve covers

GODDAMNIT! that's the one! please tell me it was ridiculously expensive, just so i can tell myself i couldn't have bought it anyway. those cal custom valve covers are perfect for that engine, too. mf

I run one on my 32 pickup and my Dad is building a high performance 396 for his 35 Chrysler. Lots of fun to have that great big mill up front, makes the sbcs look tiny.
