I am changing the steering column and wheel in my 49 GMC p/u. Out with the tilt and Lecarra and in with a 54 Chevy car column and wheel.

I am making a custom horn ring for it, as I don't want something with a Bow-tie. I have 51 Pontiac hubcaps and like the Chieftan in the center. I would like to carry that theme through to the horn button. Did Pontiac use such an item, maybe a plastic instert with the Chieftan? Maybe 2-3 inches in diameter?

What years, models, etc would be helpful.

Better yet, if somebody has something they want to part with... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Let me know.

Thanks,

Neal

Almost all years of Ponchos from the 40's to '56 had variations of the indian head horn buttons. I like the 55-56 versions where the indian head is floating inside the horn button. My 41 has an Indian-head center button in chrome. I'll check to see if I got a photo of it........I don't but I got this image of the indian head on the clock-delete-plate. Same one as the horn button.

Thanks Rocky. I think I have seen the 55-56 horn button you speak of. It would be on a lower line model, without a full horn ring, right?

I did a Google image search and found the emblems on the rear quarter of a 52-53 Pontiac.

This would match my hubcaps perfectly.

Does anyone know how big these are? I need something that will fit in the center of a 54 Chevy steering wheel. I think the center of the wheel is about 3-1/2 to 4".

Thanks,

Neal

Neal. That embelem is 52, 53, 54 Pontiac rear quarter embelem. Comes in a thin stainless sheet over a metal base, or a chromed pot metal version. No idea which years were what..

I have one on the firewall of the Model A, one for the horn button on the old shoebox Ford and it's also going to be my next tattoo.

Also have one sittin in top of my tool box. You are welcome to it. It's the potmetal kind and is rather pitted, but it is free...

Holler if you need it, -Abone.

PS. These measure 3 and 7/16 diameter, 'bout a 1/4 inch thick. They have a 1/4-20 mounting stud on the back.

Travis - Are you going to the Rattle Can this year?

FlamedAbone - Sounds good. let me measure my wheel and see if it will work.

Thanks,

Neal
