ive always loved the the 46-48 fleetline chevys done up in traditional lowrider style ever since i was a lil puppy. (ie;on the ground, rolling all original etc, theres an awesome example of one in the newest lowrider mag from a dude i went to school with)

thanks to Crestliner and Kustomchops for the period correct asceories.

anyways ive been super busy on my way off topic monte carlo and finally got it put back together on saturday, thats why ive been postponing bringing it home.so today we had a chance to get it from my dads where its been sitting since i bought it almost a month ago.

plans are to get her on the ground and fire up the ole stovebolt and then start the restoration process. its been awhile since ive been all the way and im looking foward to it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

i know, not exactly on topic for this board with what im going to do with it,but i just thought id share with ya since im really excited.

later,
sam

hhehe, yes, actually i check it out often,,there are some REAL nice rides, and some REAL dudes, but the majority there have no clue about the TRUE meaning of lowriding/cruising the blvd... they think its all about making your ride into a circus car,.

Ohhh, Si! I love 'em. I can just see it with all the chrome replated...gotta have the fleetline chrome stripes on the fenders too.....down IN the ground with gold Daytons or Zeniths. skinny-line whites on 5.60's with Juice! Drive it around with one front wheel off the ground' draggin the twice pipes and makin sparks while the 216 barks.
Gotta carve up your car club plaque so only the letters remain and put it in the back window with a red light shinin on it....hoochie mama!
I can't wait to see the interior plans...

Get a set of 14x7 Daytons with two prong knockoffs, juice or bag it and you will have a sweet rides... I love Bombs also.. and it looks like you got the ride accy so far.. just need a Felix the Cat sticker and a few license place accy and maybe bumper overrides to complete the look.

Just noticed it has the overrides already..

some nice looking bombs. One day I want one with the wood side panels that you see every so often. I love woodies.

Glad to see you got at least one accy for the bumper.. you are on your way. now you just have to find every factory accy for it.. more the cooler you get with the bomb crowd.

here is another fat whale on supremes

i wish this was the end of lowering it,but its just a mockup.
if it sat just where it is and was drivable without a rough ride , i would be happy with it,but its just mocked up, its ridding on 16"s so when i switch to 15"s with a smaller tire it'll drop it down a lil more .

the lower A arms are almost hitting the frame and the rear of the frame is gonna have to be C-notched

im kinda undecided with what i want to do right now,,,

step up the lower A arms,?,dropped spindles($470.00!ouch!)??
subframe??,full frame???. any advice??
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/samiam325i/bomba6.jpg
man,now that i look at it along with the others above it really looks high still,i guess im gonna have to subframe it? i was talking to brother earl schieb today and he suggested a late 70's early 80's A/G body gm subframe.

Elrusto
09-12-2004, 11:08 AM
Im gonna step the control arms on mine.

Boones
09-12-2004, 11:32 AM
Well, you know you can get those down with the factory stuff (look at all those bomb pics).. A true homeboy would leave the stock stuff (me i would shitcan it for disk braks). I think dropped spindles are always a great way but for cheaper

15x7 on smaller tires will drop it alot
Can you trim/ notch the front spring pocket to allow the control arms to have more clearance. You will have to 'C' notch it not step notch the rear and probably raise part of the rear tranny tunnel. I still recommend spindles, 2" is a lot and the ride improvement is great.

Look thru a newer Lowrider and call a shop or two in LA and ask question on how they would lower it for you (pretend you are going to have someone do it for you.

You know it needs either juice or bags to get it down right...

Elrusto
09-12-2004, 07:21 PM
Well you went and did it! You made me go drag mine out of the shop today. Snapped a couple of pics while I had it out.

09-12-2004, 09:19 PM
Elrusto,,that rules your alread up on me with the fog lamps and spotlights! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Boones, your right, dont know what i was thinking about clipping it,, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif,i removed the metal bumpstops from the front today and it gave it more clearance,,and removed the rear rubber stops,it sits just right now,the rear end is on the frame, but after a notch its gonna be just were i want it once i go to 15"s

donnie, your right about no one around here apreciating it,,it makes me sad at times ,no one but kids hardly ever dig any of my rides,,which is cool, but the funny thing is the things i do,peple have been doing in so cal for many MANY years...:(,,,but give it 6 years or a discovery channel show and then theyll be all over it! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cool, how did I miss this post for three days? That thing is huge!

Classic Bombs are the best, classy and totally timeless.

And not all that prevalent in L.A. either., I go to a lot of lowrider shows and there are like 50 '64 impalas for every good bomb. I'll post a few photos when I get home. . . I'm sure I have some of those.

I love some of those bomb colors too . . like two-tone putty grey and metallic chocolate brown. . . some of those guys really know how to do roof color/body color combo's that are wierd but surprisingly good.

ChrisinPhilly
09-13-2004, 05:51 PM
Sammy, great start for a bomb, good luck with it. I can relate about living in an area that doesn't appreciate lows. I really enjoy bombs and Bellflower cars, but I think I'm the only one in the area that even knows what they are. Paso is just great if you're into these type of cars.

Yeah, I bought a clapped out shitty house a few years ago in a bad part of town (it was then) and didn't even know that Elysian Park was over the hill. Then moved in on Labor Day weekend and cut through the park with the u-haul and found myself in the middle of a lowrider show . . . lucky deal.

Now whenever there is a holiday weekend i listen for the rap of 235's through pencil tips and I know its time to walk over and check it out.

Anyway, have fun on the bomb, if I see any more good ones i'll take pictures. That blood red candy one one dr.j posted is really evil.

[/ QUOTE ]

well,im not a historian or anything,but ..

just a term the homeboy lowriders in in the southwest have called this type of car since back in the day,..also called bomba(prounced bO-MMM-bAA ,..notbaM-ba )

mostly used to describe 38-54 chevys done up in this original ,lowered ,factory acessorized stlye.

i guess it has to do with the shinny round shape sitting on the ground maybe resembling a big world war2 bomb http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif? maybe it has something to do with the crackiling exhaust?
