Someone just posted something about the Rod Shop Cuda and got a reply "too new", than someone else remarked about "pre-64. For all the new kids, that believe there's no stupid question, let some old timers here explain.I am trying to figure what happened in '64 to establish this "wall" in that persons mind . Thanks

It's only pre-64 in the classifieds... we are flexible on stuff on the main board. That Cuda rules...

Funny how a lot of guys cling to this "pre-64" barrier, yet one of the most replied to posts on this forum is the "Drag Cars In Action"..........and that one has hundreds of photos of late 60s and 70s floppers, stockers, rails, etc.

Possibly because 1964 is usually considered the birth year for mainstream muscle cars. When they arrived, they were usually just as fast or in some caese faster than a lot of homebuilt hot rods. Supposedly, they almost killed hot rods, but I think they actually helped it by the introduction of more efficent power plants.

Anyway, that's always been what I read. May or may not be the way it was, but as a kid if the sixties, I didn't know what a hot rod was until American Grafitti came out. All I knew before that was badass Mustangs, Vettes, 'Cudas and Camaros.

OK makes some sense...I like that ...we saw at our track what killed things and why you see tracks all closed down around the same mid 70's period was the Viet Nam War. Trying index bracket racing didn't save us .No car count -no spectators.
also (edit 7/25)...High cost of "Class Racing", maybe first "Gas Crisis -not sure of that date...lets say a number of things "ganged up"
