I've been putting the motor back in my coupe. For some reason, one of the secondary carbs is leaking fuel into the barrel at idle. I lowered the fuel pressure which helped, but didn't eliminate the issue. It actually seems to leak more right when you turn the car off. I checked the the needle valve at the inlet, but still no dice. Any ideas? It's drivin me insane.

Thanks

Have you checked the power valve? Those things drove me nuts. The diaphram side is open to manifold vacuum, and when you get a backfire,or just old age, they leak like crazy. Some guys recommend you plug them with a holley plug. Just make sure to jet it fatter,so you dont go too lean, and burn your valves.I suggest you leave them in(good ones),so you can get better gas mileage, tet have them open up when you need the power. Also make sure you have the viton needle and seats, and as you know low(2-3lbs.) pressure. glenn

Jalopy43,

Now that you mention it, the power valve thing makes alot of sense. Im gonna head out to the garage and check it out. What is the viton seat? IS that the 1 piece integral unit with the blue gasket lookin thing? I just pulled that thing out and tried a good old Ford one. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks for the help!

Hope that helps. Viton is a kind of rubber material, that is used to "tip' the needle(fuel inlet)valve. It is supposed to be more tolerant to minute crud particles in the fuel,so it dosen't hang open, flooding the motor. Some are actually Flat seats, and some have good results, especially with 97'sViton seats are not recommended with racing fuels, alcohol,or nitro. Also regular Holley power valves fit a 94.and you can get them with diffrent vacuum opening points. There are numbers on them,in inches of mercury(vacuum) when they open. 4.5,6.5,8.5 etc. a 65 is most common.(6.5) Glenn

Is 1 7/16" the correct distance for the float adjustment ( top of float to gaskey flange)? Im hoping Im waaaaaaay off.

With the airhorn, float assb. turned upside down the bottom of the float should be from 1 3/8" to 1 11/32" from the edgeof the flange. The power valve should be a 7.5 (marked75)

Thanks!

I searched the net for 2 hours looking for that information and never found it. Can't beat the good folks of the HAMB.

My secondaries are doing the same thing. Running out the throttle shaft. Did you remove the venturi cluster from your end carbs and block the holes that go to the idle circuit? Was thinking this was my problem. Pressure down to 2# and cant get the thing to idle. Pretty frustrating. himmelberg
