Hello all. I've been checking out the H.A.M.B. for a few months and finally registered. I am car designer/stylist by day, but an automotive artist, t-shirt designer and of course, hot rodder by night.

I have a 1939 Ford Panel Delivery Truck that I purchased from my father who found and did much of the restoration work in So. Calif. It now lives w/ me in Metro Detroit. I actually am having a few suspension issues, and have been checking out the forums and will likely post my issue soon.

I've been designing and drawing cars a lot longer than I've been turning a wrench, so be patient with me, I know with your gracious help I will figure it out.....Thanks to all for such a cool and helpful site! ;)

What kind of suspension issues are you having?

Hi Norton. Thanks for the info on the MI group!

Having two problems-
1) Hit a "bump" ( not a hole ) on Southfield Fwy last summer. Since then, have sometimes heard a "binnnnng" every time I'd go over a bump. Frequency has increased. Doesn't do it at first, but after driving a little while over a non-glass smooth road, you hear and feel it in the floor ) when going over any surface irregularities. My friend and I checked by bouncing the left front up and down and placing our hands around the A arms and spring, and we think its the spring

2 ) Think ball joints need done, but I have an aftermarket tubular Mustang II front end, and all the shops I talk to say they wouldn't know what ball joint to put into it unless I know who made it. I can't imagine its that particular of a piece being a std hot rod part. Figured I'd start there, and then work my way to the "binnng" above.

Pics of the suspension are in my albums:

Now looking for some sort of good decent shop in the west suburbs to check it out. Have struck out w/ three so far, gonna try an independent mechanic on Mon and give FatMan a call.
Thanks for asking....

Welcome, we have a few other designers here too... I always wanted to be you, but my family moved from Roseville, to FL in '77 so the Design Center was a bit of a commute.

Thanks for the welcome, but don't feel bad- trust me, its not as glamourous as it might have been back when these hot rods were designed 1930s-mid 70s. Now regulation and cost is king- we can't do shapes like those that were done w/ weld and lead fill back in the day, until we get more capable stamping tools and/or are willing to pay for them:D

Plus, you get to laugh at us in January when you're in flip flops @ the golf course.....

I try to be helpful but don't have answers for you about your front end trouble.
Post your questions on the main board with those pictures you posted on your profile.
