Finally got off my ass and started tearing the '46 Chevy 1/2T apart. Plans are for it to be my dailey ride with a '65 vintage 327 SBC, Powerglide tranny and a '57 Olds rear axle. I'm gonna try to keep this as a low buck project, so I want to retain the straight axle. Been thinking of ways to lower the front on the cheap and, remembering Titus's post on heating & bending, I'm thinking that might be the way to go. I don't know if mine having parallel leaves as opposed to a Ford's transverse spring set-up would make any difference. Any thoughts on the subject or any other ideas for lowering the front would be appreciated.

Anyways, here's a pic of the truck as it was delivered last June and another couple in my garage tonight after I got through tearing some of the sheet metal off and pulling the engine (stock 216) & tranny. We're on our way........... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tagman,Look at mounting your axel on Top of the springs. You may need to notch the frame, but that's easier than bending an axel.Nice truck. I like your choice of power train also. Keep us posted. Charlie

I agree, put the axle on top of the springs if at all possible. I would 'nt mess with heating the axle may self.
Keep us posted.
