Does anyone have any pics of Larry Grobe's green chevy sled.I thought I saw a pic of it here a few months back but never anymore about it.I saw he had put a lot of work into it.Thanks guys.
And if no one has those pics how about throwing out some chopped sleds.I'm in the mood to see some 50s customs.

Django knows more about it than I, so try PMing him. Magnet may have some pics from one of the Voodoo Kings' cruise nights, but they're not up on his website. Anyway, It's a 53/54 Chevy with I believe 56 Lincoln headlights. The front clip is welded together and tilts forward. SBC. I think it's chopped about 8", channeled and bagged. 61 Chrysler bubble guage cluster. It's really nice with a lot of really nice subtle custom touches.
I'm sure I will have some pix in a couple weeks. He is always here here for Dean/Ducktail runs.

I don't think the word subtle is in Larry's vocabulary! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh my God... I gonna agree with you on something.
Subtle? Like the subtle flamethrowers on the Olds? Those subtle fins... gotta look twice to see em!
Cool, mmmm ok. Subtle? No.

Yeah in retrospect that probably wasn't the best word to use.I meant to talk about adding the little things that most have to look twice to catch.

Like it, but HATE the tilt front end. Too corvette for me. I wonder how visible the split line on the side is?

I think that the phrase "attention to detail" would be more appropriate than subtle.
Which leads me to the next point about the split line on the side...I noticed from the photo that he added a swept body line that rises up from the rocker, across the door, and down the length of the fender. The split line seems to be on the underside of this which would make it invisible unless you were under the car (not a position to be in unless the car was on a lift http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif).
I took note of the tilt front end as well because I have been considering it for the Merc. I see this technique more as a means to an end (access to the engine, etc) than as a "custom" feature. Anyone who has laid across the fender on one of these cars, stretching out and reaching down to work on the engine, knows how nice it is to be able to lift the fender up and have direct access.

I remember when that car was @ the rebel weekend in indy 3 years ago, it was pink or salmon I think.. anyway, I met Larry and hung out w/a couple other friends of his who probably don't remember me, but I DO know that he was a really, really nice guy.
I've always been a fan of that car.. it's sweet! He was totally cool to me and I was new to the "scene" as it was and to hot rods as well... Maybe I met some of you guys too who knows!
Anyway that's all I have to say! Great car.

I love the look of the chevy. The olds was awesome but I prefer the chevy. This site is killing me.One day it makes me want to build a Model A pickup then a Sedan then a early 50s chevy sled then a early 50s Ford truck.

Subtle? SUBTLE???
PLEASE, show me (or explain where they are or what they are) some of the subtle touches on that Chevy...that's the most OUTRAGEOUS kustom I've seen in a long time.
Yeah, slap-you-in-the-face and kick-you-in-the-nuts subtle!
