Acutally the plan has changed. There is a place closer to Springfield (little over an hour away) http://www.sandspringresort.com/lodging.htm
I have stayed here a few times and the river is a good float. If anyone is into trout fishing this is the place to do it. It is at the mouth of Bennet Springs State park. The lodge room rates are cheap, has a pool, place to eat on site. DW give me a call, Keith:cool:
theres a place in pineville i believe or maybe noel ? anyways it's about 30 mins from the hotel in joplin, right off hwy 71. i just went a couple days ago and it was good, water was high and floated almost the whole 8 miles, very little paddling. would be good for the little ones. i went through a company called two sons floating. $32 bucks for the fiberglass conoe, with seats, and ride to the top. if more info is needed hit me up. Just want to fair warn any of you that care to join on our little float trip. Some years back I decided to breed with "Breeder" and I will be bringing two mini breeders with us on the trip. They are great kids, but they are 1/2 Todd:eek:! Look forward to seeing all of you soon and I am bringing my Moms with me. She is in dire need of a great time:D!

The lodge room rates are cheap, has a pool, place to eat on site. DW give me a call, Keith:cool:like keith said, this is right across the river from Bennett Springs State Park. you can camp in the park if ya don't wanna spend the ca$h for a room or just prefer to sleep with critters. there's also a dining place in the state park, or it's about 14 miles into lebanon. if ya go to lebanon i suggest Dowd's Catfish House & BBQ at the west I-44 exit (lebanon has 3 exits; this one is exit 127). the address is 1760 W Elm Street. Elm St is actually the former US Route 66, and Dowd's is about 1/4 mile off of I-44.
the river at this point is an easy float. read that, no really rough rapids or places to drown you.

never fear mike! i wont splash ya buddy! and ill keep my swing suit on, the whole time! :)
that's a temptation. when it gets closer let me know if there's going to be an odd # of folks floating. if you need another warm body to fill a canoe so that no one has to take one by himself/herself (or having to put 3 people in a canoe) i might go.
here's a bit of travel info for after the float:
1. if you want the scenic route that will prolly add 10-15 minutes travel time take OO south out of the middle of the state park; cross 32 onto A; take A to I-44. you won't get lost unless... oh, never mind
2. if you don't want to get lost and aren't in a hurry go east on 64 into and through lebanon to I-44; this will take about the same time as #1 above. by-the-way, don't make any turns 'til you get to 44; the road names/numbers will change, but don't turn. unless, of course, you know where you're going &/or want to take a side trip.
3. if you're in a hurry take 64 west to 73; south (left) on 73 to Buffalo; south on US-65 to I-44 at springfield

I also forgot to mention the you can rent a john boat and float with it. The small mouth fishing is good and the trout fishing is killer. To fish for the trout you need a Missouri fishing license and a trout stamp.

finally just made my reservation!
...Me and Michelle, Breeder, Shana and the kids, and Binderod and Julie...is this still the committed group? (or the group that should be committed?) looks like 8 folks there, but shana's mom isn't listed. is she floating?
i've told the boss that i would like to have off that day to go floating, but won't know 'til closer to the time whether he'll let me go.
i don't need to know ahead of time in order to make reservations. my parents live in lebanon; 15 miles away. i can come down to lebanon wednesday after work, stay with the fam, and be out at the float place well ahead of the leaving time.
do we need to reserve the canoes? i'm guessing that on a thursday this won't be necessary, but who knows?

Mike, I just made reservations and had them hold 6 canoes for thursday. The 2 1/2 hour float will cost everyone 22.00 each. I figured to start around noon and hit some gravel bars for some cold beverages and lunch and stuff. I would guess it to turn into a 3 1/2 hour float unless the non swimming Breeder falls out of the boat or tries to walk on water.
here is the list that I know of.
Breeders Wife / Shanna
Breeder / Todd
Breeders 2 kids
Breeders Wifes Mom
Mojo / Charlie
DW / Catherine
Michiel
Atch / Mike
Silver Streak / Ken
Silver Streaks son
Me / BinderRod / Keith
Mrs BinderRod / Julie
and whoever else wants to join in

Excellent!
Michelle and I are bringing *two* coolers on our road trip. :D The big one to keep in the car and then another one that's more portable for the Drags and the Float trip, etc. I am soooooo excited.
Jalopy Jim - come on - join us!
My not so super secret master plan is that we need to convince Michelle to move to the midwest.

My not so super secret master plan is that we need to convince Michelle to move to the midwest.hopefully your "float" cooler can be latched. like the playmates or something similar. so that if it gets dumped into the river the lid won't fly open and spill everything into the river. also a piece of small rope is good to take with you so you can tie a cooler handle to the cross pieces of the canoe. again, so if you turn over your cooler will stay with the canoe instead of floating away down the river.
a couple of cents worth of free advice. prolly not worth what you paid for it, though.
if you already knew this please disregard. i don't mean to insult anyone's intellegence, just don't know if you've been floating before or not.

Thanks... this city girl can use all the advice your doling out. :o My cooler zips up and has a strap so I will use that and clip it to the canoe
Although I really hope we don't dump the canoe.
My parents actually do have a summer house on the lake in New Hampshire... so I have been around canoes before.... but again... hopefully we don't dump it.

well, i was looking forward to getting in some seat time in a canoe. i haven't been yet this year. now it looks like i may not float any in '08. the boss denied my leave request. mumbled some bs about me being too important to turn loose of. or something like that. isn't going to let me off friday either. bummer; no springfield swap meet for atch. i just need to retire. would, too, except i'm addicted to food and a warm bed. i've got no ca$h to spend at the swap meet, so that's not such a big deal, but i was really looking forward to the float trip. you guys & gals have enough fun for me, too.
todd michael - thanx for the encouragement the other day. wish i could be joining you guys.
i'm gonna try to get out of here early enough to make some of the friday night hotel party. should get in there about 8ish.
