Hey it's 12:01;if the Aussies can do it so can we! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Busy week this week but not too busy to have some fun.A "nearly-finished" pic of the FBBMA and a couple of bike pics. The bike was done in Dark Blue and Maroon and for some reason it looks like Bright Red and Process Blue on this color.Depending on which way you view the stripes, they look alternately light and dark.
The panel was done on a solid oak cabinet door.I bought three of them for $3 at a yard sale! After striping I lightly coated the panel with the Dupli-Color Mirage Ice paint and then cleared it.Looks wild in the sunlight!

The second one here unfortunately got ruined after I accidentally dropped a length of packing tape across it. I so carefully tried to get it off and it severely took too much design off. We are at the start of a new project for one of our club's members. He's going to build a ford roadster with a flathead. So I thought I would have my brother draw up some 'quick' drawings of a few roadsters to help him choose which roadster to build. When my brother brought them over, (the next day) I couldn't believe it! Check these drawings out. He is really getting good.

This would probably be a good time to introduce myself, since hot rod art is all I have to talk about http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif hehe.. My name is Richard, I'm from Victoria, BC Canucktown.. I'm an electronics tech by trade.. I'm learning to stripe and slowly getting better at it.. I fell in love with striping by watching a few people at island invasion.. I won some money at a casino down in the states and spent it on some paint and brushes while I was in port angeles on my way back from Seattle. As far as cars go, I don't have a rod yet, but I've got some old stuff. I own a Vespa P200 and a First gen honda Civic 1200.. I think it's the only car Honda made with chrome bumpers. It's a car only it's owner could enjoy http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif anyway.. the reason I'm posting here is to show off a couple of things I striped recently http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

First off is the Helmet which is still drying up as we speak.

I always feel a little awkward starting the Friday Art post, because we are so far ahead of the rest of the world here in Aust (time wise that is!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif). So I only do it occassionally ( but not this week though).
Hey nice stuff so far guys and welcome Rich^Vic.
Ok I'll start with a model I built a while back. Well it started out as a soft plastic childs toy. But I have a passion for midget racers and saw this toy as a great start to build the Yellow Racing Team Special. A lot of work and stainless TIG wire in this one. Geoff aka Whodaky

Thanks for the props. They're a combination of both. Scribbled the mani linework by hand, then worked the crap out of 'em in Photoshop. The roadster was made into a banner 12 feet long and printed on canvas for our show.

Here's a couple pics of my surfboard before the "shark"(aka the trusty B&D sabresaw)got it.Also three panels I did this afternoon along with a couple of helmets. These were all yard sale finds. Two of the panels are 3X5 note pad holders with glittery plastic covers. The other panel is a small piece of painted particle board with holes in the back to hang on a wall. The helmets were near-new except for a couple of drop dings.I got them at the same place I bought the engine-run tire inflator for $5 apiece. The panels set me back an astounding thirty cents for all.

Shaking my head here in amazement. What a Friday, so much neat stuff. It is hard not to be inspired. For the beginner looking for direction this is the place to be on a Friday. So many differing types of 'Art'. So many styles. So much that is unique. All presented by people with a real passion for their 'art'. And for those new here this week, you will find that you can ask any one here for advice and they are only to willing to offer it along with any little secrets that may assist.
Was just sitting here thinking. Imagine what a show it would be if all 'our' art was physically displayed in the one place at the same time!. I know that will never happen because we are spread right across the world. But it is something neat to think about.
I do feel so privileged to have found the HAMB, a place that has let me be exposed to so much neat stuff. But to be able to see all this hot rod art, most of which I may never have seen if it wasn't for the HAMB. Like most people who produce art, I toil away in the solitude of my own little world. So it is good to be able to venture out of that little world each week, into the unknown of the 'Friday Art' world. To each and everyone of you who contribute here, be it with art or just comments and encouragement, I thank you. It does mean a lot and makes us feel we are not alone.
Wow, been a few weeks since I had a rant, ah well, some things I just need to express in words occassionally.
But I'll add an image to make the up for the rant. This is one of my favorite striping pieces that I did earlier in the year. Kind of like the artist's solitude behind the lines. Did it at time when I had a few issues happening in my life. It is a time when I produced some interesting works. Geoff aka Whodaky

It's natural light Mike. The sun was going down behind cloud cover so it was mostly dark. Set the camera for a sloooowww shutter speed (15-30 seconds) so he'd have plenty of time to get the flames on while the shutter was open.
The white light you can see on the deck lid is from the license light (only one worked) in the overriders. The lights on the car are usually the only artificial lights I like to use...

Well as ussual I am in awe of the talent here. I didn't have anything to contribute till about twenty minutes ago.

I hosed off the Grand Prix for a little run tomorrow and my wife got a call that a friend of ours was in labor, so she took off to the hospital and I decided to stripe my trunk. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Go Karts were always fun. I almost got the sedan done in time. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif It's almost as much fun building these steel cars in miniture as the real things are, but the little cars are cheaper to build and take a lot less time.

Geez, now I'm embarrased. Guess I'll hafta dig something out for next Friday.

Might have got something on Sunday. Car show in dark parking lot, usually delivers some decent images as a result of guessing which causes over/under exposure.

If that film turns out to be crap, I guess I can find something in my archives or I can get out and do some more striping.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I'd love to be able to cut lose in our plant with the camera, but it's too dangerous when it's working and a waste of time when it's not.

Be fun to run some lines on some of the equipment, specially the big 12,000 ton presses. There's enough surface area on those puppies to keep us all busy for a year. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wodaky: your work is a breath of fresh air. I have thought the same thing about a HAMB art show. I am working on building a gallery in Dayton Ohio mostly of Hot rod inspired art. I will be in contact with the HAMB artists within the next year for work. Even if we are spread out all over I think we can do something.

Cherryblossm: Thank you!! Yes I sell the stuff.

Well seeing as I just can't help myself here is a really cruddy picture of this weekends work. I'll have a better picture later but the itch'n won't stop till I post someting on the art show.........

this is one case where even a cruddy picture is better than a real life viewing......
