what to thin acrylic laquer with??

Just got a quart of hok kandy brandywine from a friend to mess around with and its acrylic laquer, what do i mix this with and what it the ratio to mix it?? Thanks

Yep, I was gonna say the same thing. Been along time since I sprayed it, cant remeber the ratio. All I can say is, it's not all the same. Don't use the Home Depot stuff. I always like the PPG.

stupid me, i just looked on the back of the quart and it says it all. i was reading it and it said apply 2-4 coats not wet?? What does that mean ,just dust it on? The apply 4-6 wet coats. Thanks Nate

With candy...try about 25 percent paint and 75 percent thinner to keep it from going on blotchy. Many thin coats works for me.

Haven't shot lacquer in about 15 yrs, back then there were different lacquer thinners (reducers) for different temperature, also could add retarder make it dry slower, more gloss. I still have a Ditzler thermometer with the different temp ranges thinner numbers on it. Right now it is DTL 876 at my house, 'nother couple degrees and will be DTL105. Humidity also affects lacquer, will blush on real humid days, have to add retarder. Once I bought a gallon of Marston retarder, labels on all their cans were same, accidentally added retarder instead of thinner, didn't want to dry. I would only use same brand thinner (reducer) as paint, get info from dealer as to what to use. Saves headaches, redos. Good luck!
