Can an FE or a Modified be swapped into an early ('60-'64) Falcon? Which one is easier? Any ideas on what would be involved?

Yep but first you have to remove or modify the spring towers expecially with the FE.

Yep, it's an easy swap... just cut the front end off at the fireall... put a 2x3 suare tube frame from the rear subframe to the core support in it... speedway solid front axle... and motor mounts and you're done.

The best headers for a swap like this will be fenderwell headers.

Isn't nothing enough time and MONEY can't do. Sounds like a new Gasser on the way.

A guy here in Phoenix has a '64 Falcon 2 door hard top with a 428 and a 4 speed, a really cool car. He ditched the shock towers by putting in a Mustang II front end.

I like the gasser idea better, though.

Enh, I'd rather not go the solid-axle gasser route. I just happen to have a 351M and a 361, whereas I do not have a 289, 302 or 351W.

I suppose Fairlanes and Meteors aren't much wider.

Kentucky has just the Falcon for the job over in the classifieds for only $500 and I'll bet if you PM VonTingler he can give you some advice about Fords and straight axles as he is doing one right now.

If all that is too much work, a heated up 351w can be shoehorned in there more easily.

I have seen FEs in those before, but yes you will have to trim the shock towers back till they almost hit the spring and then box them in. If you are capable of putting in a strait axle or MII, a little shock tower mod would be way easier.

Don't ferget that a lot of Mustangs had FE's and they were Falcon-based...

If you want to keep your shock towers you can't go wrong with a 351 cleveland. They are great engines, the ones I have dealt with had the smoothest power, almost like electric if you know what I mean. They are high to build though. If you lose the shock towers and go with a MII or a straight axle http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif you can put any engine you want in there.

I think with a Cleveland you may have to clearance the shock towers a little.

This guy has a cleveland in his.
