ok so i just got a mustang 2 front end with a weld in cross member for my truck. I have a 396 in my barn that i think i would like to put in. So i was wondering what it is going to take to mount it in there? Is there kits they make for big block mounts for the mustang front end? Anyone haveany info on doing something like this?

jerry did that exact same thing in his '50 Chevy truck. He'd probably have some good info and advice about this.

It's just a basic fabricatrion job. Hang the engine in the compartment where you want it. Positioned so that the fan clears the radiator, the pan clears the steering, the distributer clears the firewall, and build mounts to hold everything in place. Incorporate the stock style rubber mounts into the mix and be sure the carb mounting flange is level front to back/side to side. I don't want to make it sound too simple but it really isn't that complicated. It requires a welder, some means of cuting steel, and some basic measuring equipment. Not as job for a beginner but not all that bad if you have basic welding skills.

i used the same mounts that hold up my 350 when i had it out. just moved the radiator to the front of the support, appx 2 inches forward. had to modify the hood latch/shroud to clear at the top. nothing major. used a short water pump.

hard part is the exhaust. ended up making my own headers for the application. have a muncie 4spd with a hydraulic clutch.

made it a lot of fun!!

til it spun #8 rod bearing!

need to get it rebuilt sometime though.
