What ever happened to the coupe that hit the rail at the drags? Also, does anyone know if he made it back home with the wrecker towing it to Maryland? Just wondering. I heard that he had a bent steering link.

HaHa,Funny you should ask.Yes I made it home OK,sans a broken rib.Talk about a heart break.I couldn't belive Todd(the tach guy) wouldn't let me run the car because I shined up a little guard rail.A cap was knocked off of a steering joint and he didn't like the temp. repair(hoseclamp). He kept saying"You don't want to kill yourself do you?" I thought"shit,I'm 47yrs old.I have a fatass morgage that will never get paid off in my lifetime,I have a job that sucks & a wife that doesn't.I will be paying for my kids college untill i"m 75 and there is no chance I can ever retire.Killing myself vs. a 12sec. thrill.Would have been an easy choice. It's not like I'd be throwing away a great future.I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be the next Albert Einstine.I tried to explain to Todd that people kill themselfs thru acts of their own stupidity every day.Why hold me to a higher standard? But it was to no avail.I had to put my car on the hook & tow it 1200mi back home having never made a pass. They say that what seperates boys from men is a broken heart and a few good ass whippings.I'm home now, feeling like a man....Charlie

With a little work you can enjoy more than "one last run"... and why blow your last one on a measly little (slow) 12 second run... shit, put a motor in it and go out in STYLE!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I believe Todd was thinking about the rest of us there as well as you. You losing your steering and crashing into another HAMBer's car instead of the guard rail would not have been a pretty site. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It was nice to meet you though. See you next year with all your car's issues fixed.

I hope you know that I'm only kidding about risking my life, and I would never do anything foolish to endanger anybody else.....It was sweet of Todd to save me from myself.

Hey Charlie,
You have got to make it out to the Track, to get kicked off it.
So between the two of us, you still win... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Charlie-
It was good meeting you at MoKan and too bad you didn't get to race, but like Metalshapes said-at least you were there! I was the guy you first asked about trying the car down the track Saturday - guess I looked like I worked there but in reality I was just a wimp who didn't bring the T 'cause it was a 5 hr pull.I was almost ashamed to be in your company after you told me how far you traveled.Next year I will have the T there and we need to line 'em up!I'll promise to stay in my lane if you'll stay in yours...lol
By the way, your earlier post had me laughing my ass off!

Charlie,

Sorry to hear about the crash! When did you pull the inliner out of the Chevy?

I still have those bones & trailing arms for you.. I moved to NJ though, so it wont be that easy for me to get them to Cindy. Are you planning to go to any shows this fall? Maybe the Hoedown? It's in Delawhere? this year.

Charley, nice talking to you at MOKAN. Sorry that you towed all that way for so little fun. I think its more fun visiting with the guy's than making a run. Bring TETNUS back next year and show them you really know how to go.

Any one who tows as many miles as you deserves a pat on the back!

Reserve a grudge race for me and my old yellow J next year.

Chris,Thanks for asking about me.You sir are a real gentelman. Thanks Smitty & Abone for posting the pics.I forgot to thank Pinstripe for his help at the track, What a nice guy! Thanks to everyone for the kind words but you probably shouldn't encourage me.I'm sure that one day I shall outgrow this affliction. Oh- Metalshapes- sorry I slobbered on your car at the Ramada Sat. nite. That thing is pure retinal delight!I probably should have stayed at the track and socialized more but racing is like porn for me.It's fun to watch, but it is more fun to be a porn star...See you all next year.

Fe02,I didn't know you had trouble there.Glad you're ok.I'm just surprised you didn't run the tow truck instead.(or is that just for dirt track stuff? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
