I ran into a guy this weekend who was selling a "rare" Murphy bodied 31 Ford Sedan. He said the window is slightly laid back compared to normal more vertical A's. It was a 4 door with suicide doors in the rear. Totally stock...barn style. Is Murphy just who made the body? Are they more rare than others? Should I even care? Just curious.

O.K...what's that then? I just checked the sign on he had on the car and it says Murphy too. Perhaps he's as retarded as me. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Model A sedan bodies were built by two companies, Briggs and Murray. The fordors from the two companies differ in style, particularly the shapes of the door windows (I can't remember which is which, but the top edge of the windows is arched on one of them and straight on the other).

Walter Murphy, on the other hand, was a custom coachbuilder in Pasadena, CA who built spectacular bodies on Duesenberg and other luxury chassis. I doubt that they ever built any model A's.

I suspect that they guy whose A you saw was mistaken about the name, and has a Murray body.

The guy was from Rivertucky, and by the looks of him was most likely the proud owner of a mighty fine mullet at one time. Recently! But your right...I am pretty retarded. Thanks for bringing it to light lil' buddy. Now I need to go find my happy place.

Hey Tbone. Still got the Rambler. 6 people took my number, and I was offered a 48 Chrysler Windsor, and a 65 Mustang as far as trades go.

Biscayne. The guy had it marked at $8500 when he got there. He got it in a trade. He lowered it to $7500 within an hour, and left an hour later. I chatted with him for about 20 minutes because he was parked directly across from me, and in our conversation he said he'd possibly go to 5K. With cash in hand I bet he's go a little lower...and deliver. I certainly don't need another car, but I did think it was cool.

Oh yeah. He also has 2 rear fenders and 4 front fenders to go with it. But personally, I think it would look kinda funny with 6 fenders on it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
