Hadn't seen one started...and I haven't started one myself for quite some time so here goes!

Just a couple posters I've done for upcoming events in Denver, CO!

If you're in the area, stop by and check 'em out!

Here are a couple of pieces I just finished this week.

The designs are bead rolled into .032-inch aluminum and are door panels for a customer with a couple of early VW drag cars. To get the scale, these are roughly 20x30 inches.

http://www.bigwigracecars.com/images/bugin1.jpg

http://www.bigwigracecars.com/images/gassergarage1.jpg

These are the original logos used for those designs.

http://www.bigwigracecars.com/images/mini-gassergarage.jpghttp://www.bigwigracecars.com/images/bugin_logo.gif

Here's one more, currently hanging in my garage. I did it a few months back for the Art Challenge #7, so some of you may have seen it then. Got more car designs planned for the wall hangings, but haven't taken the time to actually do them yet.

http://www.bigwigracecars.com/images/bomba1.jpg

Normally I don't have anything to contribute to these. I love viewing the Friday Art Show each week though, so I thought it's about time to try and participate, even though I don't consider most of my panels to be "art" on the level of the stuff I see on here. There are really some amazing artists on this board.

Those are Corvette teeth, prolly around '56, '57 or '58...and very pricey...but cheer up, there are reproductions available...not quite as pricey as originals...but then again, not cheap per each...champagne expensive tastes on a beer budget, eh...???

The Dawn of a New Age
Imagine being out on the dry lakes in the 40's.
Roadsters everywhere and this rolls off the trailer.
When the tanks and streamliners arrived it had to be
like the discovery of fire. Imagination met performance.

Quickly over the 150 mark and onward to the sound barrier.
The age of aero had arrived.

Well here's what I've done this week, but no one will ever see it because it no longer exists!!

It was a small boot mural (about 200mm high) for a customer. And you know how much harder small artwork is.

When he first came in, he wanted a much simpler picture (the girl and flowers) so I estimated $800 + gst, and then he kept adding more complicated artwork ( the petrol bowser and oil cans and little writing), so I told him it would be about $1200.00 + gst.

The guy emailed to see how it was coming along so I told him it was finished and was just about to clear it. We never priced to clear it but the painter that did the car, came in and told us he had had enough of the owner, so he wasn't going to touch it.

So I charged him $1200.00 for the
mural,( I spent way over that, what with finding better pictures that I could actually work with and photshoping a quick visual for him to ok, and creating files to get the lettering that he HAD to have, printed because it was so small, about 35 hrs -40 hrs and I normally charge only $60 an hr for airbrushing), and $100 for the computer cut lettering and the printed lettering, and gave him the option of us clearing it at $200-$300 for clearing and buffing it, depending on the paint finish that was on the rest of the car ( we hadn't seen the whole car painted so don't know how flat the orange peel was buffed out).

Next thing, we have him turn up here yelling and shouting, calling us liars and saying that we had only quoted $800 all up and that he was going to bad mouth us to everyone.

I showed him a photo of a really basic two colour amateurish airbrushing that was at a car show, where I asked the guy how much he paid for it and he said he "had paid $900 and was happy with it and was happy just to have found some one that could do it!". He said he didn't care and when I showed him his compared to the photo and asked him if his was not far better and thus worth more, he said "no"!

Man I saw red!!

So right in front of him I picked up my thinners rag and washed the mural off. I told him that if he couldn't appreciate the many hours (and many were after work hours and uncharged for), and the skill involved that I had put into creating his piece of art, then he couldn't have it!!

I washed it off completely and gave it back to him, and told him 'no charge".

He was stunned.

I think he thought that If he kicked up enough of a fuss he would be able to screw me down and get his airbrushing cheap.I guess it didnt quite work out the way he had planned!!

Why is it that if someone commissions an artist to paint a picture on canvas they are prepared to pay what it costs but if they want (read, commission), a mural on their car or bike they squeal like a stuck pig??!!

Hey KILLERCUSTOMS! Welcome to the show. I really like your Tikis!

Thank you, cecce! Stay tuned, there´s even more to come..and they´re for sale ;)

Did anyone else notice this line?

That makes you what? 16?

Look out world, this kids got talent :D

Thank you A32Flathead! Yes I´m 16 years old now :)

My art will soon be for sale, to finance my 1928 Model A project, figured out that earning money with stuff I love to do would be a much better way than working in a store for a low buck..

Thanks for looking,
Florian

Thanks! The '55 Chevy is my all-time favorite car. I've had two of them and hope one day to afford another.

Hi Stev8.
I think most of us know the type.
You did the right thing!
I wish I had stood up for myself and my work more like you did.

Well here's what I've done this week, but no one will ever see it because it no longer exists!! ...

Next thing, we have him turn up here yelling and shouting, calling us liars and saying that we had only quoted $800 all up and that he was going to bad mouth us to everyone...

Top class response - fuck 'em.

You are my new hero...next time I see you the beer is on me! there is nothing worse than a customer who balks about price after the fact. I've been screwed a few times, for thousand$ and I just will not start a job without a deposit up front and a signed contract. I hate being legalistic about it all, it takes the fun out of it, but what else can you do? That was a beautiful piece of art...too bad you had to destroy it, but I'm right there with you and probably would have done the same thing under the same circumstances.

I almost forgot the reason I came back to this thread...

Not totally HAMB friendly, but here's a '68 Charger with a 6 pack hood:
