I got a chance to pick up a '52 plymouth coupe but the rear main seal is leaking. Is it a major job to replace or about the same as a SBC? I have never dealt with any 6 cylinder Mopar motors....any special tools needed?

Should be pretty standard. My '55 has a 2 pc neoprene seal, it's probably the same as the '52. Pop out the old, put in the new. It does have "h" shaped rubber pieces that go from the main seal to the edge of the rear cap, but they're pretty self explanitory.

That is, as long as it's the same. It's possible that it's a rope seal. I'm not really sure when they started using the neoprene.

I built a DeSoto 6 a few years ago for a friend ( wish I could get those grille teeth!). Don't remember anything special. He did have a hard time finding a timing chain & sprockets, paid a lot for them. If you get it PM me & I will get my old Motors Manual out & give you any info you need.

I second that timing chain thing. I couldn't find a new timing set for less than about $100. It's nuts. If yuou get the car, I hope you never need to replace the timing set.
